Leatherman Style CS Question

I got a small Leatherman Style MT a while back, thinking that this might be something to give my grandson. I lost it some months ago, apparently in the couch. After my retrieved it after cleaning the other day, I gave this thing a full inspection. The tool is modest, only with a knife blade, a file, scissors and tweezers, but it has a cool factor that is bound to excite a twelve year old. Upon inspection of the blade, the edge is only ground on one side of the blade making a chisel grind. The non ground side has a bur running practically the entire length of the blade.

My question is this: Is the chisel grind by design, or did someone at the factory forget to flip the knife and QC did not catch it? I think that I will grind in a V grind regardless.

I've noticed the same thing on my Micra's.

Like you, I just reprofile them to a V.
 
My smaller Squirt and Style PS both are Chisel grind. For Sharpening I used my Work Sharp Field Sharpener. They cut like hell.

Good to know, and I thank both you and pinnah for your replies. I might just take it to the stones and refine the chisel grind a bit and remove the very prominent bur on it to see where I end up. If it cuts well, I may just leave it alone.

What I do is sharpen the Micra blade on a Sharpmaker as if it were a v grind. After several years of doing that, there is a small bevel on the flat side. Eventually it will probably be a regular v shape, but I'm not in any hurry. It cuts fine the way it is.

That will certainly remove the but without scratching the flat portion of the blade. Good idea.
 
I just got a Leatherman style CS and the blade is also chisel ground.

QC on the blade wasn't the greatest there is a chipped part of the blade about 3/4 towards the tip. I steeled the blade and the cuts well, with a little roughness at the chipped portion. When it comes time to sharpen, I'll use a stone to smooth it out.

Other than the blade, the rest of the tools is well done.
