Just got this one in the mail on Friday and noticed that the arrangement of the inside tools doesn't match up with the photo on the Leatherman website:

Actually, the arrangement of the tools is the same as on my Super Tool 300 (except some of the tools are swapped out for tools specific to the EOD version) so obviously it doesn't affect it's utility - just thought it was curious.

Super Tool 300 (for comparison)

It uses t-shank blades but I haven't tried swapping the saws with a Gerber. The Surge's saw and diamond file have shanks that are about twice as thick (I was hoping that the diamond file would fit).

It looks like they'd fit. My jigsaw is quite old but according to the Air Force Times: "Leatherman's new Super Tool 300 EOD is similar to the original but has a few new tricks up its handle. It has a spike for setting fuses, much beefier cap crimpers a redesigned saw-blade holder that will now take just about any jigsaw blade". I'll probably pick some up at the hardware store this weekend.

I have a BO ST300 (non EOD) and I love it. It replaced my SOG Powerassist. It came with a real nice ballistic nylon case w/MOLLE attachment, I did switch to a leather case for everyday as it blends in with jeans and boots better. The nylon case is a perfect fit with my military uniform though.

I tried a Gerber Remgrit blade and it didn't lock in the Super Tool 300 EOD saw coupler - I think the Super Tool 300 EOD only uses T-shank blades. Also the T-shank blade from the Super Tool 300 didn't fit the "universal" saw coupler from Gerber. Will stop by the hardware store this weekend to buy some T-shank blades.

Wow, thats the first time that I have seen the EOD version in a real picture other than the MFG one.

I just bought a Leatherman BO ST300 after having the regular SS version for over a year.

The tools on the EOD are kind of appealing though.

Making me rethink the purchase a little bit.

I really like the BO ST300 though, so I guess I'll be happy in the end.

You do lose the file and serrated blade for the EOD tools. The cap crimper and replaceable C4 punch are sort of job specific but the punch is threaded and the adaptor can be used to attach cleaning rods and brushes. Unless you're an EOD technician or you really want a T-shank saw and adapter for cleaning rods, you're probably better off with the black oxide Super Tool 300. I wouldn't rethink the purchase of the black oxide Super Tool 300 - it's an excellent multi-tool, at least in my opinion.

Good. :) I'll be getting one since it uses the same blades as my Bosch jigsaw.

I went to a small mom and pop hardware store and they only had a few T-shank blades. Most were super long and obviously wouldn't fit. The blade that comes with the Super Tool 300 EOD is quite short (3" from end to end). I did pick up some Lenox heavy metal blades but they're 3 5/8" overall and are slightly too long (maybe 1/4") to fold into the handles. The blades could be kept separately though.

True. For those that are considering purchasing the EOD, I should mention that there are lots of 3" T-shank blades on the net and probably also at larger hardware stores.

A question regarding the locking mechanism on the blade of the ST300EOD. Do you reckon the locking mechanism could be removed? Or that it would be possible in some other way to make the knife not lock. Locking knives are not EDC legal where I live :(

The lock lever could rather easily be removed. I'm looking at my Fuse right now .... similar lock. If I were to flex the metal on the handles, the locking lever fits in with short pins. I could remove the lever entirely. The problem, however, is that it appears the lock lever is also the stop that keeps the blades/tools from continuing to open past full 180 degrees. In other words, without a locking lever, your tools would have no "stop."

However, one could remove the locking levers and then file the locking lever so that it doesn't fit into the groove in the blade/tools. You may end up with some extra blade play when this is all said and done, however.

I wonder why Leatherman doesn't market a non-locking version for markets with more restrictive locking knife laws. A simple mod to the locking lever or simply putting no grooves in the tools themselves would make it non-locking.
