Leatherman supertool vs MUT

I am looking for a multitool to edc in a pouch on my belt in addition to my knife. I am between these two tools. I like the MUT and it's features but in and "every day" situation woul the supertool 300 be better suited? The MUT it would be good for firearm maintainence in the field but when I clean my guns at home I have access to my cleaning kit. I am drawn to the MUT because of the strap cutter and hammer. I think those features are pretty cool and could come in handy.

Does anyone EDC either one of these? Any insight is appreciated.

Well I work on firearms every day so the MUT is better suited for my needs. Regular edc though I would have to recomend the Wave.
 
THe supertool is better for EDC than the MUT, unless you routinely need to work on a firearm in the field. Plus it's a lot cheaper, so you can make up the balance with more fun toys. :thumbup:
 
The MUT is huge, and heavy, and specialized. It has few EDC tools for regular use. Get the Supertool or Wave.
 
Does the wave come with the bit kit? It seems like there would be versatility from the screwdriver on the wave than the super tool.
 
The bit kit is extra.

If you go that route, be sure to get the bit extension. That extra three inches of screwdriver-reach really helps.

Yes this is true, I have both and the ST300 is far cheaper and more for everyday use than the MUT, I put the MUT in my range bag and thats where it will stay, ST300 gets used at least several times a week, MUT usually 0.
 
You can get the ST300 now and play with it, if you like it but want a smaller package, carry it until you can get the Rebar.
 
I use the Leatherman BLAST everyday at work and it is great. Got it years ago for Christmas and it is still going strong.
 
+1 on the Blast!Mine was a safety award from work.It rides in my work bag/lunch box everyday.
 
I agree with the consensus. For general EDC, the ST300 or Wave would be the better and cheaper choices.

The MUT is a great tool, but unless you really want the firearms specific tools its probably not worth it for you. It does have a great sheath though.
 
Both are rather big for EDC, but ST300 gives you a more well rounded package.

Wait for the Rebar if you want an ideal EDC.
 
When I finally saw one in the flesh, I was amazed at how enormous the MUT is. And of course it has way less everyday functionality than the others.

Get a Wave, or a Charge, or a Super-Tool. (I personally found the Super-Tool 300 to be much more suited to "laying decking" than "everyday use".)

If you want a weapon-specific multitool, get a Multitasker.
 
The MUT is more of an in the field AR-15 tool. I don't own an AR-15 (gasp) and I do my gun cleaning at home, so I would not have a big use for it. While still a bit heavy for EDC the SuperTool is very practical and useable. Suitable alternatives to it are the Vic SwissTool and the SOG PoweLock. I personally favor the PowerLock due to its leverage system and the tools being replaceable. I think the SuperTool has the best or toughest tools of the three. The SwissTool is no joke either and its tools are accessable without opening the pliers. You cannot go wrong with any of those three. If you are looking for a smaller tool like others have said get a Leatherman Wave, or a SwissTool Spirit.
 
I looked around quite a bit before I purchased a multi-tool, and found exactly what I wanted in the Leatherman Charge ALX. Love the sheath, and it came with the additional screwdriver bits. The blade on that model is a respectable 154cm steel as well. Overall, a great tool. Have fun deciding!
