I have a Leatherman Wave in Black Oxide that I absolutely love, but I was thinking about putting thumb stud on the primary blade, so I can A) tell which blade I'm opening, and B) make it easier to throw off hand, all without having to look at the tool.

Anyone have any idea's where to buy and what kind of thumb stud to use? Also any cool mods for a Leatherman Wave?

Searches for Leatherman Wave returned very few and mostly off topic results.

I'm not sure about the thumbstud, but the top of the serrated blade has ridges on it and the plain edge is smooth. A quick feel can tell you which blade you're opening once you get used to it.

If you're ok buying and cannibalizing a leatherman rebar, you can switch out the plier head with replaceable wire cutters for the wave's pliers.

If you don't mind losing the large screwdriver you can replace it with a cut down and drilled house key so you always have a spare.

Another idea is modifying a regular bit holder to fit into the wave's proprietary holder and you'll be able to use any standard bits with it.

Have fun!

I have had this leatherman for almost a year and didn't notice the ridges on only one of the two blades. Good Call!

Not an original idea, but you could put a small zip tie through the opening hole, snip it off flush with the square end out making a thumb stud of sorts. Easily removed or replaced it you choose.

Decent idea, should I be worried about legal issues of adding a stud to this tool? Or is there a good source on thumb studs?
