Hello everyone.
I have been collecting knives for over 15 years and it all started thanks to a movie night where i watched 2 specific movies. Sly's Rambo and Arnolds Phnatom Commando. Since then i have been hooked on knives especially SF/Military Knives. But the thing is, there is no specific, for example, Navy Seals knife that they are issued or use on mission. Most "Operators" use whatever works best and is avaliable at the moment. Still, i would like to, with your assistence, compile a list of knives that are 1. actually beeing used by Special Operations Units, 2. where made with those units in mind and 3. are supposedly condoned/approved by them. Not just US but world wide. I would like to start with a few. Dosnt matter if custom or not. If you are a SF Soldier, Seal etc, please be so nice to state what you carry and the reason why.

1. The Chris Reeve Green Berets Knife / Yarborough. Made for those who finish the U.S. Army Special Forces Course.

2. The Ka-Bar Fighting Knife. Actuallu used since WW2.

3. Bark River Bravo 1. Designed with the help of Force Recon Marines. Dont know if they get it issued or they they actually use it.

When I was in the Marine Corps, my unit was not issued Ka-Bar brand knives. We were issued the following:

Ontario Marine Bayonet
Ontario Ka-Bar clone
Basic Gerber Multi-tool
Benchmade 9050 auto, serrated version

That's what I saw floating around, maybe there was more. I never saw any BRKT's but I was just a regular grunt and not recon.

A whole lot of Gerber should be added into the list as well.
Randall Made Knives
Spyderco Native/Military
Benchmade Nimravus, AFO, and a ton of other
Strider SMF

Mad Dog, Buck (Buckmaster), George Lainhart's combat knives, Ka-Bar UDT variant, Ontario mod 3. The SOG Seal models, Phrobis CUK, etc.... were used by various Seal units.

Richard Batson, John Wagaman, Bill Maynard, Walter Brend, etc.... all had some military popularity as private purchase knives.

Honestly, just running it down in my head, this list could run into the mid 100's just on the US side with private purchase knives, small unit orders, etc....

Gerber multitools for sure.
I know of one Green Beret on active duty that carries the now discontinued leatherman vista(multitool with pruning shears)
I know of many Marines that are huge fans of the RAT1.

Check the black class Benchmades. Every one that has an NSN (National Stock Number) is in the Military supply system.

I was issued a Benchmade 9100 AutoStryker in Iraq in 2006.

Though I doubt very many people carry them today, no list of military knives is complete without mentioning the Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife. This was designed as a purpose-built stabbing weapon for WWII era allied troops, and even had a unique CQB fighting style developed with this model knife in mind. (see "Get Tough" written by William Fairbairn)

I know what my students at Ft. Huachuca ask me.
Sgt TF, We couldn't afford to go out to dinner once this month and we have a new baby coming, what can I deploy with that's under 25 bucks?
Me. The P X and clothing sales have Gerber, multi tools, Gerber Air Harseys, and CRKT M-16's and some buck knives. Get one of them.
Others ask, "Hey sarge, I got 50 bucks I can spend." I tell them get the best multi-tool you can get. If you have one then one of the M-16's or a Griptillian on sale.
Not a lot of bucks in the enlisted ranks. As they make E-5 and above and have a working wify you will find better stuff but the multi tool comes first.

A friend and mentor of mine went through the Q course with a Victorinox Mauser and carried that knife for years. On a wet team he was issued a USN Mk3 Mod 0 he later gave me in the late 80's when I worked for him in 5 SFG(A) (I wasn't SF - by then I was a support puke and served as his XO and as the Log Det Cdr). I sent it back to him last fall to hold for one his grandkids.

Let me see if I got you right. You know one cannot compile a list of knives used by "Operators," but you want to do so anyway.
