Lets brainstorm and design a survival vest.

Criteria:

- cordura nylon
- seam taped heat sealed edges
- small water bladder attached
- contents must be 100% secured
- contents must be waterproof
- vest must have drag handle
- integrated fixed blade holster on chest or side
- SOLAS tape patch front and back.

what other ideas can we come up with? what would you include on/in a vest for shortterm/longterm survival?

keep it on topic :)

Available/removable USCG Type V Inflatable PFD with option to inflate manually in case of CO2 failure or previous use.

Available orange outer layer for use when hunting.

Adjustable compression straps on the back for gear, blanket, supplies.

HSGI Silverthrone

Bit big, I cut off the gernade pouches because they were pointless but other than that I really dig it. I forget it's on sometimes.

What kind of survival scenario would this vest be for? Survival of a lost hiker or hunter or something else? Or more of a end of the world scenario? Or survival vest for anything and everything?

I would go with an Interceptor Body Armor vest.

KISS!

One of my favorite "VESTS" is a modified camo shirt that I ripped the sleeves off of. 4 pockets was great. Maybe 8 or less with small ones for lighters, firesteels, and cell phones

anything and everything. A woods wandering vest. a SHTF - oh crap the plane is down - oh crap the canoe/gear is shredded and gone type of vest.

something one throws on without a thought, tucks a briar pipe and tobacco and a P/J sammich into it and hits the woods for a bit.

I'm enjoying my RIBZ, but what I do like are the pockets in the lower back. I have a couple in my large Drop Zone smock. They are great for storing a small siltarp and/or space blanket and even a 20-30 feet of 550-cord...it stays out of your way and isn't cumbersome at all. Waterproof is kind of a two-edged sword. I would almost opt for using drain grommets and Alosak or Ziploc bags to keep what I need dry.

Me too. I like a pint pocket over each kidney. A one pint stainless hot water bottle in each isn't much bulk under mah parker and makes a lovely toasty warm I can loop.

I wonder if a simple plate carrier with PALS webbing would work as a lighter base than a full vest. I would add an EOD bag from County comm to the back and pouch up the front. I'm not sure I would carry water on the vest itself, but on a belt attached to the vest.

I used to have a Buck(the knife brand) Bird hunting vest in woodland camo when I was a teen... It was a great way to carry gear. had lots of pockets, and a big rear pocket that was lined to carry game in.

I have one of those too Joe.....love it.

Take a look at some of the turkey hunting vests for inspiration. I think you can go with lighter materials and capture more of a market. The tactical market is pretty saturated.

I like the idea a lot.

G'day Joe

Just what sort of "wilderness" areas are you planning to survive in :D

Kind regards
Mick

Its not the Wilderness I'm worried about with the survival aspect. Its calling the wife to talk when I'm out there so I can survive her when I return ;) I one time called her while standing on the top of an Appalachian trail shelter 20 miles into Great Smokey Mountains. I couldn't believe I had reception!

an attached hood.

having all sorts of stuff doesn't do you much good if you forget your hat and die of exposure, when pursued by man or beast.

it's a Rancher's Maxim.
