Lets see your CPK in Leather!

Appreciate it. The DEK3 is such a sleek, slicy, and mean little knife so the sheath needed to be stealthy and deadly looking as well. Hope I pulled it off.
I can say without question, YOU PULLED IT OFF! It’s a very light, compact with that push in and it pops into place retention. Next to one of his first sheaths . Same retention on both and with each complimenting the blade they were made to protect. Anyone else see a little of duramax duramax influence in these sheaths? This community is so willing to share tips on how to make projects easier and cleaner🤗 . Looking forward to seeing what Michael comes up for that beast he picked up at Blade, I heard he might try inlay, 😮

Thank you Martin !

Thank you brother ! They’re improving. The next one is gonna take a lot of practice and a loooong time. It’s blue ray skin inlay time for the “TANTOSAURUS” sheath 😛
I find it awesome that you are turning out such great leather. Can’t wait to see the next project.
One of the greatest things about the people on these forums is how people are willing to help others become better at things. So many fields have folks who guard every shred of knowledge, and here people offer tips for sharpening, heat treating, building, sheaths, shop supplies and equipment, etc. It is a very nice atmosphere and community.

💯 It is indeed a special place. My first couple of sheaths were just plain nasty. Lol ! A few more are kept in the shop as reminders of “what not to do”. By studying the work of others and friendly advice, better things are happening. Hats off to all of these amazing folks and craftsmen that we are fortunate to associate with 👍🏼

That's an awesome sheath! Does wet forming give enough retention for a knife that big to be carried horizontally?
Thank you 🙂👍

The retention is pretty good on it. Added to the wet molding , I added a loveless cam on the welt for the thumb ramp. Plus there’s a ramp on the welt for the finger guard. They work together to hold the knife in there.
Now if it was me , I would add a retention strap for added security. I could easily add it as I planned ahead for it.
For the times I’ve built scout carry style sheaths. The knives have been much smaller, this is kinda large for this. But the knife has nice balance and light for its size. CPK builds one hell of a nice knife, as you know 😊

Have you ever done an adjustable welt on a sheath? Just curious on your thoughts about it.

If you’re talking about using the Chicago screws for compression. So one would tighten the screws to squeeze down on the welt. Causing the leather to kinda bulge a bit width wise and squeeze down.
Yes I tried it
Some of my sheaths I’ve used the Chicago screws along with rubber washers externally. I placed were when tightened could tighten the retention. image.jpg

I also played around with using thinner rubber straps to aid retention. It would mount on the two Chicago screws at the mouth of the sheath. One they hated the sun and two they were kinda ugly.
