I carried this humble Martinni while hiking on Friday
That is real nice Dylan, what are the specs if I may ask?
Thank you, Jack.
I'll list the info below:
A well balanced knife but due to the grip angle, makes the blade seem a bit forward heavy. Good for heavy camp chores (i.e. chopping, batoning, etc.) but still keen enough to handle food prep, game processing, and the like.
- Maker: Bill Siegle (a maker on the forums here, local to my area as well)
- Model: Farm Hand Bowie
- Steel: 5160 High Carbon Steel (an exceptionally tough steel)
- Dimensions: Roughly 13" overall with an 8 1/4" blade. Thickness is close to 1/4" (more like 7/32")
- Features: Tapered Tang (as seen in the handle closeups), Full Flat Grind with False Edge (swedge),
- Handle Material: Wenge Wood with Stainless Steel Pins.

The stuff of automotive springs, I think, or at least it has been?Steel: 5160 High Carbon Steel (an exceptionally tough steel)
Thanks. That was a nice set. This may be one of my personal favorites. Made this knife for stock to sell right before Christmas some years back. The wife kept it.
Sure some similarities between the two sets for sure.
Another beauty Dave.California Coyote in sheephorn:

That is a very attractive Bowie Dylan. I'll have to research that wood.Got this beauty in a couple of weeks ago. First piece I've had done in Wenge wood. I find it particularly attractive.
Back in November, my good dog Acorn passed after a brief battle with cancer...she had been with me for thirteen and a half years. When I came to terms with the loss I asked Herman Williams to make me a knife to honor her memory. This Schrade 165 is a fitting tribute to the best friend I've ever had. The Blue Camel Bone handles are for the clear blue sky where she runs now. Herman recessed the handle pins and overlaid them with slices of Dog Paw mosaic pinsand then added two more per side. You'll notice the prints run toward the guard on the mark side and away from the guard on the pile side, much the way our daily lives circled around each other. He added in a serial number composed of her initials...Acorn Dog..and birth year, and my birth year and initials....then finished it of with some of his excellent file work and machine turning on the blade. After all the work he put into it he went one step further and gifted the knife to me. View attachment 1106497

I've never seen a carving jig like that. Neat trick.
Gorgeous Dave

Thanks Jeff, I've been collecting Herman's knives for quite a few years... over 200 and counting...and we talk over the Skype a couple times a week. Next month I'm going to fly out and spend a week with him. Can't wait to sit on his porch and talk knives..he's going to help me build a knife in his shop and we'll probably drive over to SMKW and see if any of the old factory collection is still around. Talk about a dream come true. My first dog...Acorn #1 is buried about 40 miles from his house so I'll get to visit her as well.DW, that is a spectacular tribute, and what a gesture by Herman.
Thanks Jack, my friend. man I owe ya an email or twenty!
I miss you Dave Check out the Guardians thread, just posted some pics I think you'll enjoy
I always enjoy seeing his work. Fine looking Bowie! Finally got my hands on a piece of Phillip Patton’s work. I am very impressed. His craftsmanship and attention to detail is second to none. This 10” Bowie was forged from W2.
