I'd never heard about this knife until just a couple weeks ago. Anyway, I'm now fascinated by them so I did a little research on this site. Apparently they used to be 32 bucks, but now I can't find them for under 50. Am I looking in the wrong place, or have they just gone up that much?
I found a used one for under $40 on eBay, but that was basically a loss because that thing was beat to crap.
In before Biden bucks.

I don't mind paying $50 for a nice example of one, just seeing if I'm looking in all the wrong places.

Inflation, plus Kershaw has to pay royalties to Emerson for the design.
Makes sense. I've read several "great bang for your buck" posts. At $35 I'll agree, perhaps a steal. At $50, man the knife world has gotten really competitive, but even then not bad.

I had a CQC-4K and like dit very much
Over the last couple of years the prices have increased so the $50 you see seems to be the standard price for the CQC-7k

Even at this price I am regularly considering to get one. ;)

Even with some original Emerson knives I think the CQC-7k can be nice ;)

Kershaw also upgraded the steel since it was first released

This, and also some of the models went through a cycle of being cleared out due to excess stock and then becoming more rare. Each model from the collaboration seems to have fluctuated a lot.

The trainer version is still $32. ;-)

No kidding about inflation though. Remember the days when a Delica was $40 and Mini Griptilian was $50...

I was a bit partial to the CQC-5K from that series of Kershaw-Emerson collaborations.

Smkw is your friend 😉

What makes you interested in this knife? If the wave thing is what you’re interested in there are some hooks you can buy and attach to any knife. Wise Men Company sell an attachment called the Fang. I’m kind of partial to their signet rings.

Couldn't care less about the wave, that's just a fortuitous feature. It's a knife, there is no other reason to be interested as far as I can tell.

While certainly “fortuitous” its become an excellent innovation for folding knives. While it may have been accidental it works like a dream and there’s no faster way to deploy a knife other than a fixed blade.

And it’s not just a knife but rather just a kershaw. Save ya money and buy the real thing. You won’t be disappointed and I’m sure you’ll become quite the fan of the wave.

A long, long time ago, I had a Katz folder that also had that blade opening assist screwed into the spine of the blade like the one you are interested in. I'd locked myself out of my 1987 Astro Van - yeah, a long time ago. The only way in was to pry open the rear window enough to slide my hand in, which I did just as the blade broke. Well, I knew it was at risk doing that - but what I learned was that when they drill and tap the spine for that screw, they are scoring that blade, just like you would a piece of glass to break if pressure is ever applied there. The blade snapped right along those threads. Just something to consider. We all know a knife is not a pry bar, but sometimes you have to use one that way. I've never bought another blade built like that.

I and others like Kershaws and you have to trust that if something does go wrong that there's always another tool to fill the gap.
