Recently I saw a GEC on bay that had q backspring that stuck up pretty good on full open, so I passed. Is that something GEC can take care of pretty easily?

The amber sawcut. It was the one I thought I was least likely to get after seeing the in progress pictures but the finished product looked really interesting to me.Which one did you end up with?
No 'grand daddy' barlow yet, but the 97s are pretty close. Also the 64 and 65s are similar but with a copperhead bolster. the Madison Barlow (Northwoods) is larger but on a trapper frame.I know the 77 medium barlows are very popular. Did GEC ever make a large barlow?
Interested is what the sfo handle will be. Tortoise should be easily attainable.
