Anyone having this issue? First happened to my V10 about a week ago. Bought a V20 today and it happened a few hours ago. The only thing I can think of was the recent software update. The sound is like a 90's Motorola pager but as loud as a smoke detector. The sound cannot be muted. This happens with the phone on vibrate or silent. The only way to stop it is to turn the phone off. The noise will eventually stop on its own after a minute. The noise has no corresponding activity on the screen.

Do you use the default messaging app or a different one?

Also have you downloaded any new apps recently?

No... I've heard those. This is so loud that I thought it might be coming from the smoke detector. This is "piercing" loud.

That's weird, I'd take it back to the store I guess. Sorry I couldn't be of more help

They won't take it back... Can't manage to get to the phone store when it's going off.

I would switch all of the "sounds" to vibrate and see what happens. The store should be able to tell you what's going on. They see all kinds of problems and far more than us mere mortals normally experience. I've always been hesitant to get a LG phone. But phones cost so much.... more than tablets and many computers.

I recently got the Samsung J3 (Verizon) through believe it or not Walmart for the grand total of $18. Been pretty impressed with it especially considering the price. Honestly I was really hesitant to get a phone other than through a phone store. But the folks at this store knew precisely how to move things from my old phone. The only thing that didn't get moved were the apps. Verizon even contacted me afterwards asking about my experience with them.

Had one of my regular callers contact me that my voice mail "wasn't set up"..... I thought, huh? Have had it set up for years.... Talked to Verizon and learned the the voice message is stored on the phone and not somewhere else, hence with a new phone you have to set up the voice mail again.

I had an lg v10, that I would take to the gym and watch youtube videos on while running on the treadmill. it worked fine for a year or so, then began misbehaving. It would be fine for 10-20 minutes, then it would start asking me out loud if I was trying to talk to it..."ok google" wold say "if you just said something, I didn't catch it...." and then it would randomly and incessantly adjust the volume. I tried shutting off voice search and voice command functions, but it didn't help. the phone would just become possessed s far as I could see. The people at the phone store said it "must have been responding to some kind of electrical interference." but they couldnt fix it. I had to replace it.

wait a minute, I might be wrong, it was an lg, but i don't think it was a v10. I'm sorry. my faulty memory. Im not sure what it was now.

Somehow sound like hardware malfunctioning.. Have you tried blowing air through it (if that's even possible) since you do knives and all?

I switched to a Sprint V20 two months ago. Latest Android OS and I've never had it do what you're describing CM.
If it was happening on two different model phones, the only thing I can think of is it's some app that was installed on both phones.
Next time it happens, go to your current running apps, then one by one terminate applications until the noise stops. Once you terminate the application and the noise stops, you figured out which app is creating the sound and you can nuke it.

Be interested to see what it was if you can find it.

This happened with all sounds switched to vibrate and silent.

Hm, I'm pretty knowledgeable about Androids, but I'm stumped. Are you getting notifications when this happens, or is it just random beeping? It could be an app you downloaded. I know the V10 and V20 have that always-on screen strip up top; if the beeping only happens in your pocket, it could be that, I'm not really sure how that feature works.

I found this thread on XDA, and they don't know what's going on either.

At this point, I'd try to return the phone and get a new one. I don't know how old it is.

No corresponding event or on screen notification. It generally happens between 1800-2200.

Planterz, I think you may be on to something... If you have the second screen set to "Show when main screen off" it could be running an app from there. The second screen has up to 6 pages.

If you scroll through all the pages and look at the apps anything look like it may be the culprit?

Do you have many apps installed? Want to list them?

Do you have a friend that would want to mess with you? There are some apps that let you locate your phone if you lose it and also let you lock the phone and even do a factory reset to erase all data. But they also can make the phone 'scream' to help you locate it. Not sure what would happen on screen. Both me and my wife have a program like this on our phones and I've thought about making hers scream to freak her out but have decided it's likely not in my best interests. Just a thought.

Sounds weird. I will poke around and see if I can find something where you can view if an app has permission to override the silent mode.

Turned off the 2nd screen. So far, so good.
