I got a nice, full-size multi-tool lately (Leatherman Charge TTi) and I like having it with me. It is a little too much to carry edc though. What can you guys recommend for something lighter, that I could carry easily? A pocket clip would probably be best. I want pliers, a blade, a flat-head driver, file would be nice, philips-head would be very nice, awl would be good, scissors might not be needed. What are some options that are tough out there? I'll pay whatever it costs, if it is the ideal solution.

Light weight and multi-tool, first time I ever heard em together in a sentence.

Have you looked at any of the victoroknox or wenger swiss army knives?

OR a leatherman squirt p4

SAK w/ suspension clip... Or the Squirt PS4...

Have you tried carrying that Leatherman Charge TTi in a pouch on your belt?

Just wondering..

Yes, I've been carrying the TTi in the sheath on my belt. It's not bad, but not quite the slim profile for edc.

The PS4 does look pretty good. I carry a lot in pockets so I wish I could get it with a clip.

Check out the Leatherman Wingman. Smaller/thinner/lighter than its bigger cousins such as the Charge and Wave, and comes with a belt clip. I gave one to my brother a couple of weeks ago and it never leaves his side.

I'm in the same boat. I want pliers but don't want the weight/bulk. The PS4 is okay but it's not really a full function multitool. It's just too small. The leatherman juice series is about as lightweight as you can get and still be fully functional. I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet though so can't speak to the quality.

Not sure how small/light you are willing to go, but the SAK Mechanic meets all your criteria except for the file. I'd second the Skeletool CX. Just depends on what tool you use the most. Good luck! I've been on the same auest for about six months now. I'll be interested in what you settle on.

+1

I've been carrying mine for over 5 years and it never leaves my side.

I think I am leaning towards the Skeletool. I wasn't crazy about it when it first came out, but it seems to make more sense now.

ps72, what are you most likely to get at this point? Is there something that you don't like about the Skeletool?

Sir, they are NiteIze clips.

They are not screwed on but glued. How ever, they must use some pretty powerful stuff, as Ive carried a SAK with a NiteIze clip glued on for a long time and have yet to have the clip move even a fraction of an inch.

The best part of it in my book, is that IF you want to remove the clip, you just use a length of fishing line/monofilament or the like and slice off the clip.
It'll be as if it was never there.

There are two types of NiteIze clips.

One is the 'HipClip.'

http://www.niteize.com/product/HipClip.asp

Its okay, but will slide out of what ever compartment or pocket you keep the tool or knife in. I have several HipClips, but use them exclusively on tool/knives, that are in closed/zippered compartments in rucks or the like (have one clip on a Leatherman Juice in a pocket in my MaxPedition Monsoon Gearslinger).

For me, the HipClip dont work on a knife or tool, which resides in a jeans pocket. The knife/tool will slide up (and in a worst case scenario up and out of the pocket) when you sit down or remove the pants. Just doesnt work.

Luckily, NiteIze makes a far far better clip - the NiteIze 'Eclipse' which has teeth, that literally bite into jeans material. Annoying at first, but once you get the hang of it, the Eclipse is fantastic to use. You quickly learn to remove the knife (in my case) with the clip on from the pocket in one fluid motion. It will literally NEVER leave the top of the pocket no matter how many summersaults you make. A great and useful item.

I wont link to it, as I couldnt find it on the NiteIze site, but look for the words 'NiteIze Eclipse' on a well known auction site and it quickly pops up.

I heartily recommend the Eclipse (at least it works for me).

The CF modded Vic below is and will be my EDC SAK for the foreseeable future:

I have the Juice S2 and it's a great little tool. Same LM quality as all their other products.

I have seen several OEM pocket clips for several leatherman models. I dont know about the weight, but one of these days I am going to get a few for mine. I don't like stuff on my belt that I seem to catch on everything like a pouch.
