Good evening all - about a week ago i started a thread as it related to values of some of my Busse knives - I finally got my gold membership today - so i am trying to figure out values on a BASIC 11 with the asymmetric grind. There weren't many of these made - this is 1 of 30 that Jerry did himself for a show - And in fact the only one i ever saw i bought. Never used at all - sat in my safe for the last 10 or so years. I want to say thanks in advance for any help.

Regards

Basic 11s have been going for around $400 for the last few years. Id imagine the relative rarity of the grind might add some value, but Im not sure how much.

Thanks for the info - I have one Basic 11 with the usual grind, and then this one - I am not sure if it was a prototype - but I have only seen the 1 that i bought above.

I have an asymetric grind B3 and I like it a lot. Looks incredible polished.

The asymmetrical grind isn’t rare to the basics at all, but I’ve never seen a grey one with asymmetrical grind. I’d say between $400-$500.

My 9 is asymmetrical, smooth black coating, and original factory leather sheath. One of my favorite knives.

Thanks for the response AntDog AntDog - Do you have any threads that you can remember that a Basic - 11 had a asymmetric grind?

Not that I’m aware of.
Not sure that an edge grind type adds value to a knife. A swedge or rounding or bevelling sharp edges maybe but an edge?

Yeah, gonna have to agree here. Somebody who collects all the variations of B11s might have to have it, but I’d think that’s a pretty rare bird. Also, rare =/= valuable.

I actually remember seeing a grey basic 11 with an asymmetrical edge for sale here a couple years back. The asym. edge is cool but not terribly rare. I do believe it may add a bit to the value maybe 30-40 bucks, the prices I have seen for a standard basic 11 would be in the 450 range.

The B-11 asymmetrical grind was offered at one of the Blade shows, and were supposedly ground by Jerry Busse if I remember correctly.

That is correct - all asymmetric grind Basic 11 were personally ground by Jerry. - There are not many at all - The only one i ever saw - I bought - there has not been another sale of an asymmetric basic 11 sold since i bought mine - to my knowledge - that was over 10 years ago

Funny, there was a B11

You have 90 posts and you say"the only one I ever saw"? Then you say "there has never been another for sale"? The first may be true, but the second comment is not. So you have been scanning the sale thread for 11 years on a weekly basis to know that your second comment is true?

The fact is other asymmetrical B11's have sold here that were identified as such and I am sure a bunch more that were not identified as such sold as well.

and you gotta wonder how many sold with that edge that no longer have it because most people end up putting a regular V or convex grind.

It's a cool knife, if you haven't used the B11 you should.

That is correct. If you have any old threads that you can find on the BASIC 11 asymmetric - i would be interested in reading them. Jerry Is the only one that ground the asymmetric basic 11 to my knowledge. It was for a special event or something. I have 2 Basic 11's one tanker grey never used. One regular grind never used.

There are threads on it I am sure, because it was known at the time. The B11 in of itself was not common and I think it is one of the best user knives made. One of my favorites for sure.

here is one that I sold off

Any asymmetric's ? This is not a chisel edge, it's some magic voodo that Jerry did. The edge is what makes the difference. I've never seen another one for sale since i bought mine.

Awesome thread! I read it years ago amd forgot aboutYes, IIRC the asym B11 was a Blade Show Special. A kind HOG, oldphysics helped me out by buying one for me. Miss that guy.

This old thread is relevant: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/asymmetric-edge-resource-thread.747170/
Awesome thread, i read that years ago and forgot about it. Thanks for the revival. There is something very special about the edge magic that Jerry did on these Basic - 11's. There are not many out there.

Just read in the thread that resinguy resinguy posted that these were a limited edition run for a show. Only 30 were made - Jerry did his magic on all of them. They were called "The Drunk Janitor Edition"

It is VERY rare for a BASIC-11
