Linder knives

I happen to have a Linder "Superedge 3" in ATS-34.
Superstrong stuff with a perfect handle.
Happy sharpening

Slow1, I have a Linder Superedge with a 3.75 inch blade. Very sharp and great feeling handle. I've taken it backpacking, but never actually used it much when I had it.

got my Linder Jagdnicker today. Love it, overall quality is as good as Case's fixed blades, in my opinion.

My buddy needed a new hunting knife about 2 years ago. I recommended the Linder SuperEdge 1 in ATS-34. Quick search yields this source at $85. This is cheaper than what he paid: http://ndsproducts.com/linderlist.html

SuperEdge 1 is a great, traditional Loveless drop point design, good rubbery handle, enough guard, great heat treat on the steel. He can get it wickedly hair poppin sharp, but it doesn't seem to be as delicate as other knives with a small included sharpening angle. 3-1/2" blade, which is just at the low end of "perfect" for cleaning up to mid-sized game. I see they have a "SuperEdge2" at 4-1/4" also in a more "semi-skinner" styled blade. You get a choice! Semi-skinners work slightly better upside down (opening up a deer) than do drop points, but both are great.

2 years ago, I couldn't find anything I liked better for a hunter at the $100 price point. Now the Fallkniven F1 is a very close piece to the drop point, with a tad longer blade at 4". I like them both very much as hunting, and general utility knives. Your choice probably can be made on handle style or blade style (steels are close), and I personally like the Linder just a bit better for handle, and I prefer semi-skinner. You may have to get a custom sheath for either, the Linder had a flap (boo, hiss), and I think Fallkniven now offers 2 kinds of sheaths, but anyway: http://www.fallkniven.com/a1f1/f1_en.htm

If you want the ultimate hunting blade, see Bob Dozier's semi skinner and hunter for another $50 (in the $150 range). The hunter in particular took the semi-skinner style (super deer knife) and drop point from Loveless (actually, Loveless did semi-skinners too and may have invented/popularized those also) and used both ideas for a just outstanding knife. I don't know what happened to Dozier's home page, it doesn't work anymore. If you are interested, drop me a line and I'll dig up their phone number.

Dozier is devoted to D2, and knows how to heat treat it as well or better than anyone in industry. It isn't as "stainless" as ATS-34 and 440 series, but it holds an edge like the best of the 440V heat treats. Outstanding. And he is about the best in the kydex sheath business also.

Linder SuperEdge 3 is a nifty looking fighter design at 5".

All the SuperEdge pieces are ATS-34 with a good cryo treatment. Field performance indicates they know what they are doing in heat treat.

Beware, Linder offers numerous knives in "440 stainless", which is code for 440A.

They have other knives in 440C and ATS-34, and both are much superior to 440A in edge holding. Buyer beware. 440A is usually treated to be tougher (chopping, bending) than 440C usually is treated, since 440A can't get as hard in heat treat.
