The polyurethane liner on one of my vibratory tumbler tubs is worn through to the metal. It didn't wear evenly either, it's pitted and wonky so it disturbs the media flow too. It looks like it was cast in place. Does anyone know if I can repair this?

It would be awesome if I could just pressure wash it clean and then putty in more material to patch it up. Smooth-on has polyurethane kits but I've never done something like that before. Has anybody worked with this stuff before? Can you apply a patch to it? How would you repair a wore out tumbler tub?

I wonder if some truck bed liner material would suffice? Either way, I don't see why a patch wouldn't work, as long as the bond was good and you got an even coating.

What kind of hardness do you think it is ?

Apparently the spray on pickup truck bedliners and tank coatings are polyurethane too, but I suspect they are harder ?

I've had friends recommend that sort of thing to me, but the tumbler would have a rougher life.

I think the problem will be cleaning well enough for anything to stick.
I'd think blasting would be the way to go for surface prep and a full strip and re-coat would work better than patching

If patching is cheap enough, no harm trying ?

here is ours at the machine shop
obviously we haven't used it in years....
it has some sort of resin coating

I like the urethane idea.
I used to be in the auto collision business and we did some truck bed liners and would not recommend that, expensive and wouldn't last.

3M makes a tough rubberized coating. I've used it to line the inside of motorcycle finders with great success. And it's in a rattle can. POR-15 makes various types of polyurethane / catalized coverings as well. Super tuff stuff.
