Listing of all-black Kershaw knives

So, in an effort to control my current Knife collecting obsession, which has been flying all over the place, I am trying to focus on Kershaw knives (which I generally love) and, in particular, all-black Kershaw knives. For my purposes, I define all-black as having black handle scales and a black blade. Non-black pocket clips and/or hardware are acceptable. For my purposes, black-washed blades do not count as black.

I have only started collecting knives relatively recently, so I figure they may be a lot of Kershaw knives in this category that were discontinued long ago that I have not heard about. but based on my own research and the excellent (though outdated) list of Kershaw knives posted by Leek_Freak in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/899650-Discontinued-Kershaw-ZT?highlight=1620dam, I have come up with the list below, which I think is pretty complete, but if there is anything missing, or anything that should not be in here, I'd love to hear about it!

By the way, I remember reading something questioning why a lot of black Kershaw knives have CKT in the model number and that it was related to a company who ordered black knives from them... I found the answer to what CKT stands for in the list above!

(P.S. I want an unofficial Kershaw collector's forum! :foot:)

The CKT designation for black blades is derived from the initials for Chesapeake Knife & Tool, who, if I remember the story correctly, was the first distributor to special order knives with black DLC blades.

To add to your list, in addition to the Chive 1600BLK (shiny, polished boron carbide coating), is the Chive 1600CKT (matte DLC). Also missing is the mini Cyclone 1635TCKTST.

A couple of all black Kershaw autos (discontinued) are the Rogue 2001CKT and Breakout 7000CKT.

If you want to include Zero Tolerance knives, the list would grow a bit...

Good luck with your quest!

Yeah, I noticed the Cheaspeake Knife & Tool name in relation to the Leek Black Randoms, maybe those are the knives that started the CKT designation.

I'm avoiding Zero Tolerance at this time, but I appreciate the updates and will add them to the list! Thanks!

Thanks steve. Here's a super rare one and one of my favorites. 1660BLKST

That one is not on my list... based on the model number, would it be correct to call it Black Boron Coated serrated blade?

What does the 'Random' mean in the descriptions? I've never understood that and I'm sure I could search, but I might as well ask...

From KAI........

"The Random Leek combines the blade style of the original Random Task with the slim and sleek style of the Leek series. But that doesn’t exhaust the pluses that the Random Leek has to offer. A big plus is the blade steel upgrade. The Random Leek features S30V stainless steel."

By the way, at this point I don't feel the need to have all the variations of a model (plain, serrated, tanto, etc.), I'm mainly focused on one of each model. I can't say that I see a Tilt in my future, but I got a like-new Spec Bump yesterday, so I am happy!

Wow, you have me confused with this one! Despite the "BLK" in the model number, just about everywhere I look shows this as having a silver blade and the "BLK" seems to me to refer to the handle. The 1725CBBLK, which has a black blade, does not have serrations though. The retailer your image is from no longer lists it on their site, maybe it was exclusive to them, but I would still expect it to have had a different model number. I was able to find another picture of this with the serrated edge though, so it does seem to exist. Anybody have any more info on this?

They are out there, the 1725STBLK. And it is a different model # than the 1725CBBLK, which has a composite blade. I was trying to find find one years ago when I was trying to get all of the JYD's. All of them look to be from 2007.

Yeah, I have to think that the 1725BLKST would be black and serrated, based on the model number. I just find it strange that if you search for that model number, you will find many sites that show it having a silver blade. The only site that seemed to show the black version is *site removed because I found it correctly pictured at another dealer*. I will add it to the list, but if anyone has any other details on this knife, I'd love to hear about it!

Found the following info on a dealer site, but still looking for more info...

Kershaw Junkyard Dog II Flipper Knife, Black G10 Handle, Black Combo Blade, 1725BLKST

Description:
The Kershaw Junkyard Dog II Flipper knife is a made in the USA knife with tons of attitude. A frame lock secures the combo edge blade in place and the price is unbeatable. Made with sandvik 14C28N steel and black G10 scales, this rough and tumble knife is built for speed, strength, and performacne. Plus it looks great.

Steel: Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel
Handle: Textured G-10
Blade Length: 3 3/4 in. (9.8 cm)
Closed Length: 4 7/8 in. (12.5 cm)
Overall Length: 8.65 in.

"performacne" is their spelling, not mine...

Found a different site that lists the blade as "Sandvik 13C26, Black", so the mysteries continue...

The 1725BLKST JYD 2 would have been 13c26n as they were made in 07 and Kershaw was still using that as their USA standard steel until about May '09. It will also have only a serrated blade no P.E. Not sure who they were made from but I'll bet there were only about 400 produced.

There is the 1840DD Daniels Defense Shallot also for your list.

Regarding the Junkyard Dog II 1725BLKST, I found this image, which is what is so confusing about this model#... definitely looks like 1725BLKST on a silver blade to me...

Not sure why I hadn't done this yet, but an eBay completed auction search for 1725BLKST finds four listings... a black blade that was listed three times before selling and a silver blade. The black blade is dated August 2007 and the silver blade (which DOES show 1725BLKST on the blade) is dated December 2008. It would seem that this model# was used for both a black blade version and a silver blade version... has Kershaw ever done something like this with any other knife?

Things do happen, not too common but it has happened before. Most people just show the stock photos of a knife anyway so don't take those photos too seriously. I have found calling is the only real way besides physically seeing it yourself to confirm. I have seen a couple of these but never owned one. Hope that helps.
