Little Finn's?

With all the love for the traditional pocket knives here, I was wondering if any of you still use a Little Finn for hunting/fishing? Any make will do, Case, Ka-bar, Western. Of all my boyhood knife memories, the Little Finn's stand out as the belt knife of the era. Stacked leather handles, 3 inches or so in the blade. No matter what kind of pocket knife they had, when it came to going out with a shotgun or rod, the leather handled Little Finn was on the hip.

Anyone still use them?

I almost bought one today, but decided to come home and check online for a better price. I like a fixed blade while outdoors, and it would meet most of my knife needs. There is one in my future...

I have and sometimes use a old Western Little Finn knife. I'm not sure the stacked handle is leather tho, it could be something synthetic. It's hard to tell for sure.
I have been using a Mora 2/0 a lot these last 6 months or so. It's about the size of Little Finn.

I had a Case 5 Finn and M3 Finn a few years ago. I thought the 5 was entirely too long for a small game knife and too small for big game, although I don't hunt big game. The little M3 blade was just right, but the handle is too short short for me; if they'd make one with 2-3/4" to 3" blade and 3-1/2" to 4" of handle, that would be a dandy, small slim and lightweight but with enough handle for somebody with big clumsy fingers like me.

First post guys, I've been lurking around here for quite awhile now, sure have learned a lot and can see the traditional forum sure is a very family like environment, wonderful people here. As for the little finn, I purchased a Case about 6 months ago, haven't used it much to be honest. After reading all of jackknife's incredible stories I think it'll be on my hip when I go shark fishing this weekend in Frisco Bay.

After my mom passed a few years back, her brothers wanted to reconnect with my siblings and I and make sure we stayed close as family, despite being scattered around the country. One uncle picked up my youngest brother and I to go fishing on opening trout day c. 2010. We grew up far away from their side of the family but we all love to fish so it was great fun. My uncle surprised me by rummaging in his truck and holding up a stacked leather little Finn, promising we could use it on whatever we caught. We didn't catch much -- but it was more about being out there with family. Good memory.

I don't have one, though as a kid I had a really great little Western that took a phenomenal edge.

BTW, guys, check out Hess Knives. They make some gorgeous looking, affordable Little Finn type knives. I've never handled one but, man, they sure are pretty.

Just by way of example, here's a pic of a Hess Whitetail Hunter with Amboyna Burl wood handles from CollectorKnives.com:

Blade is 3 3/8 inches of 1095 steel. Overall length is 7 1/4 inches, and weight is 3.2 ounces.

I had never paid any attention to Hess knives; went and looked them up. They do show quite a few traditionally styled models. Very nice.

You mean one of these?

Yup, I have one, but am in need of a sheath for it. I don't do much hunting, so it doesn't get used for skinning, but ever since I put a convex edge on it, it cuts like crazy.

Most slipjoints have small handles. That’s the nature of the beast. I live with it.

A belt knife should have a decent handle. It should fit my hand in multiple grips. I need at least four inches from guard to crow’s beak.

I never tried a Little Finn. The handles are too small.

I agree that the handles are a little too small for me. I bought mine for 20.00 figuring that it would be a good knife for my son once he gets older.

I don't have an issue with hand grips as I have little lady hands, (source of embarassment at school:() so for me there is no issue with handle size, I just haven't gotten around to getting myself one of these knives.
