I went to my local hardware store and they only had Permatex threadlocker, so I picked up the smallest bottle ("Blue", so I can remove it if needed). I plan on using it to keep pocket clips screws and other such things in place. Do you guys think it'll do as good as Loctite? Has anyone used it with good results?

I used Permatex blue thread lock on my Spyderco Endura (current FRN model) to set the pivot screw after I disassembled the knife for cleaning; the Permatex is still holding strong after a week of flipping the knife open regularly.

In my experience, both brands work just fine. Although harder to find, purple is intended for use with smaller screws.

Read the histories of the two companies , interesting . Loctite bought Permatex in 1972 and in 2002 Permatex left Loctite !! Their products are probably very similar !

I got that same bottle of Permatex because I couldn't find Loctite, too. Later I got some Loctite online, and I don't see any difference.

That's quite strange lol.

And that's good Tsujigiri, thanks for the info :)

I used this stuff on my new benchmade 51 Bali and it didn't work at all. I took the screws back out and cleaned them in alcohol and reapplied then let it sit overnight. We will see tonight if it works. Bali's take a lot more of a beating while flipping but blue 242 always works. I read someplace that there's some primer your suppose to use with it. Maybe that would help

Here's a tip for applying LocTite:

1. put a drop of thread locker on a piece of plastic or tape.
2. get a small paper clip and bend one end.
3. pickup a small drop on the end of the paper clip(or a tooth pick also works)
4. apply the drop to the threads.
5. assemble parts.

I'm the buyer at work, and I buy whichever one bids the lowest at the time I need it.

They are spec'd the same, and the formulas are close, if not the same. Both meet the ASTM and mil specs equally.

3M Scotchlock is good stuff, too, but a lot more expensive than Loctite or Permatex.

hmm I too have just bought some blue permatex while searching for blue loctite, and like the one guy said I am having issues using it on my Benchmade 51 pivots, and zin pin screws. I think I got it to hold okay on my pivots finally, but the zin pin screws just won't seal up. I left it for 24 hours and still nothing. I always felt your supposed to use a very small amount of loctite, but with this stuff it seems to like being caked on. Trying it this time with like twice the amount of thread locker.
