It amazes me that folks let their boots go undone. Not only do they only put a bow in them in the woods, etc, but they can't lace them properly. Anyone here see the same stupid stuff?

show us what you mean.

I can't show you, but when you lace them, you double the ends thru the top eye (the same direction in as out). That forms a loop, take your 2 ends pass them thru the loops, & tie in a reef knot. They'll NEVER come loose (even if by some odd freak of nature your knot comes undone).

In all the time I've spent in the bush, in bush camps, on construction sites, etc...and I mean I have been wearing boots 98% of the time for the last fifteen years...I can't say I've ever found this to be a problem and I've never heard of it.

Nor have I seen my dad do it, with all his years in mining and prospecting, nor his brother, with forty years in timber and lineman work, nor their dad, who'd been dead for years, but probably spent sixty years in his boots in the bush.

So this is a solution I've never encountered to a problem I've also never encountered! I would be interested to see a picture.

That is (was?) actually the standard for lacing parade boots in the CF because it looks cleaner (along with parallel lacing). There's no bow flopping around and the running ends are tucked in. It's ok that there isn't a bow to snag on stuff, but it's a PITA to adjust lace tension after you've been wearing them for a few hours, especially if they get wet or your fingers are cold !

I double knot my boot laces because they tend to snag on sticks and brush otherwise and come undone.

i would also love to see a pic or diagram.... i usually just double knot my laces too... it's always worked fine for me...:o

Overhand knot with an extra turn then tie bow , then overhand knot with the loops of the bow. Has never loosened or come undone !!!

Is there a recent event that has brought this to light? were you hiking with one of your friends and their boots kept coming undone?

Like mete I use an overhand knot with an extra turn, then a bow. Don't do the extra step though. Never have a problem with them coming undone. Even if the laces are slippery or stiff.

I use para cord for boot laces. It`s a little too thick to run through an eyelet twice. Ever since I was a little kid I have used a double knot, seems to work.

Yes there was I had a bunch of students, & their parents on a field trip. I would venture a guess that most of them at 1 time or another had to stop walking to retye their shoes/boots. It happened so many times I decided to make a mental note if it was the same person or not. My conclusion was no, but that they had repeat undoings. When I showed them how to make a reef knot (they didn't know), then how I do up my laces they kinda looked at me funny, BUT they never said a word when I told them I did logging in PA (W/ horses for the Amish), & not once did I trip up. An old timer told me that in Korea, he saw Marines (he was an Army draftee) who would just wind their's around their calf multiple times.

I just double knot all my shoes; sneakers, boots, etc. And when I'm in the woods I wear long pants that go over the laces, so they protect as well. Hardly ever have a problem.

I wear my pants pegged up (I cut them at my boot tops & leave unhemmed). your double knot WILL snag. Since I'm a former faller, the habit just stuck.

I double knot all my laces. I never have to stop and tie my shoes.

As for snagging, it's never been a problem hunting. Hiking in shorts, I'm sure it's happened but certainly not enough that I even recall an instance.
