Long term water storage

I just read a few articles about the hazards of long term storage. I used to drink Pepsi exclusively. 1-2 two liter bottles per day. Now I drink Kool-Aid. I hate water because it has no flavor. I hate it. I HATE IT. I can barely tolerate it if it is very cold, but I will drink it. I want to stock up on water in the event of a long term need. If you store it in plastic bottles or jugs the plastic can leech chemical and it will eventually kill you or screw you up. Get this filter, geet that filter because this filter sucks. Use Polypropelene jugs not plastic. Use plastic number 4 not number 7. 867-5309, Jenny what do I drink. Holy crap. WTF do I do?

well if you hate the taste of water, stock up on drink mixes to add to the water when you need to consume it. Store them in a waterproof box next to the water jugs. Or lots of frozen concentrated juice cans. As for storage, use food rated polypro barrels, cover them with a tarp and simply change it out monthly (takes no time at all, use the old water to water the lawn or whatever. ). A few boxes of water tablets in case of emergency and your good to go.

as for plastic (BPA) leaching and killing you, one would have to consume hundreds of thousands of lbs of raw plastic to notice the effects of BPA. :) BPA leaches out fast if you use the plastic containers with BOILING water, not cold water. That whole thing was so overblown by the granolahead enviro naz*hippies. Finally some common sense and real science and testing prevailed.

THANK YOU! I want to buy those 5 gal jugs of water at Lowes and then just refill them every other month.

Buck it up! Preparing for the worst requires - well preparing and that requires - well work. I keep a couple of carboys (23 L each) with water in them. Add a couple of drops of bleach on a monthly basis. Every once in a while I dump'em and refill them.

The leaching of chemicals from food-grade containers that were used for such purposes should not be a worry.

Learn to enjoy the taste of water. Its better for you and it satisfies your thirst. Best thing I ever did as a parent was buy a refrigerator/freezer that had an integrated water tap and ice-maker tap. We just stopped buying juices and pops and the kids switched readily enough when ice-cubes were available.

I have a water cooler in my kitchen that takes the 5 gallon containers. I have them delivered on a monthly basis. I have squirrelled 6 of the 5 gallon jugs away in the corner of the garage. I have read that as long as the container or seal is not breached they should last forever. I also have a creek in the back yard, one of Pict's homemade filters and a couple of gallons of bleach would provide a whole lot of water. Chris
