Hey guys, have to go to Austin for a week and am wondering if there are any decent knife shops around there. I'll be about several miles north of downtown Austin, but should have time to get pretty much anywhere in the metropolitan area.

I found one place "Knife Sharpest", 4703 Burnet Road via the interwebs. Anybody been? Thanks!

You might as well stop by. They're mostly known for knife sharpening tho. I don't know if you've heard of the slogan "Keep Austin weird", well this place does that.

I was actually browsing the internet and came across this place called McBride's Guns, they look to carry a pretty good selection of knives. I've only been in Austin for a semester so I may have to check them out this weekend.

You fellas are talking 'bout those places, just go right south of Austin and you'll hit Budah,TX - it's about 10-15 minutes south of Austin and there is the giant Cabela's water tower which marks the area.

Real nice store, they even have a cafeteria on the second floor with everything you can think of to eat. They have a nice knife display but seem to specialize in a ton of guns

Don't fall for their "sign up for a cabela's credit card and get this free gift" gimmik though, just about 1/99 people actually get approved on the spot and get the gift :grumpy:

Have a great trip, J.

mcbrides has some knives, the cutting edge/advanced armaments in round rock has more quality stuff imho, like BM and spydie, microtech, mcbrides has more buck/gerber kinda stuff FWIW.

neither one has very much though, both are more gun vs knife stuff, but those 2 are as good as it gets in a-town.

cabelas again has more gerber/buck kinda stuff vs BM or spydie,

Sportsman's Warehouse at I-35 and Louis Henna has a decent selection. If you are North that is in Round Rock. While you are in Round Rock you might go to Cutting Edge downtown on Mays. But what's already been mentioned pretty well covers the cutlery for Austin.

Thanks guys! Next time I'm out there I'd love to try and get up to the house of blades. It looks like Advanced Armaments looks like the place to drop by at lunch and pick up a pocket blade. Thanks! -dlee

San Anotnio is only an hour away from Austin. There's a gun shop here called Nagel's that has just about every knife you could ever want to see or play with. Seriously an incredible selection. Prices are MSRP so don't come to buy, but if you're thinking about getting a particular knife that you want to handle first it's perfect.

From General.

Cutco opened a retail knife store in the Westlake area by the Barton Springs mall. Not only do they sharpen cutco knives but other brands as well. You can reach them at 512-650-3159.
