Hello to the group I am new to the group and a recent transplant from California to this area. I am looking for a school to do some FMA training near Northern Virginia and the DC Metro Area. Any information is appreciated greatly. Serrada is preffered but Kali Silat Arnis Largo Mano are all acceptable and should fit well into my training journey. If I can't find a FMA guro in this area I guess I'll have to switch to Aikido or Kendo.
Cool gruop here lots of info.
Sincerely,
Enrique

Hey Enrique,

Welcome to Nova. I live in Manassas too. Anyway, I've been studying Sayoc Kali since Jan. We have a small class on Sat. at Trident Martial Arts academy. Trident also has other classes (Filipino MA, BJJ, Combat Wresting, Jeet Kun Do, and Muay Thai). Check out the website, and the Sat. class is at 9am. Just show up and ask for Guro Todd (Not me).

Good luck in your search,

FMA instructors in the DC metro area depending on how far you are willing to drive.

1. In Woodbridge, Todd Gilbert, an apprentice instructor of Chris Sayoc, has a training group called Matrix Martial Arts. Contact information:

MATRIX MARTIAL ARTS
Woodbridge, Virginia
Contact: Todd Gilbert (703) 490-2425 or email: toddgilbert@sayoc.com

I'm guessing that Herk's post above regarding Trident is Todd Gilbert's since he mentions, Guro Todd. I didn't catch this the first time around.

2. Up in Chantilly and Reston there are a couple of folks who have FMA as part of a JKD curriculum.

a. Dan Mikeska, a full instructor under Paul Vunak.

Contact information: Fairfax, VA ( Washington, DC), Phone: 703.283.8826
Email: Dan@CompleteFitnessConcepts.com or you can check out their website at www.completefitnessconcepts.com

b. Bryan Mossey

Bryan has studied under a whole host of folks including Paul Vunak and Mike Mathews. His contact information is Bryan Mossey 571-236-9906, website is www.scubajkd.com

3. Then if you are willing to drive a little, there are some great folks out in Maryland.

a. Mike Krivka of Martial Arts Concepts. Mike's a full instructor under Dan Inosanto. His website is http://www.martialartskoncepts.com/ He teaches separate classes in JKD concepts and Kali,Arnis, Escrima. So, you can get pure FMA if that's what you prefer. Drawback is that Gaitherburg is a ways from Manassas. You can contact Mike Krivka with any questions regarding classes, seminars, fees and training at (301) 404-2571 (9:00 AM to 9:00 PM EST)or via e-mail at JoeMarszalek@martialartskoncepts.com.

b. David Wink of Full Contact Martial Arts Association (www.fcmaa.com) out in Frederick. Contact info: Contact Info
Mail: FCMAA

Email: bgrenke@adelphia.net

From their website: "The chief instructor, David Wink, brings to the club technical expertise learned through direct training in the Pekiti-Tirsia system with Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje, Jr. He also studied pentjak silat under Master Suryadi Jafri. Dave refined his full-contact sparring capability through 20+ years of full contact fighting. Dave's fighting is characterized by the generation of awesome power, an unsurpassed fluidity with a variety of weapon and empty hands systems, and an especially lethal close-range empty hands attack".

So, there are a lot of good choices including Trident. Best of luck.
