I picked up a Craftsman axe at an antique store today. I can't post photos right now, but it is in pretty good shape. It is 35" overall. The head is 8" long, about 1 1/4" thick at the back and painted hammer tone green. Appears to be original handle and leather sheath. Any ideas when this was made? Any info appreciated. Paid $22.

That green tone was from the 50's and 60's. Could have extended into the early 70's. Are the cheeks flat or rounded? Got pics?

Sounds like a 3.75lb Michigan maybe.

I'm thinking the axe head Craftsman made for their brand were also marketed and sold for Montgomery Wards axes. Or likely the other way around. I have a 1980 and it
looks similar. That store went under in 2001. DM

That's a later model green Craftsman, late 60's or 70's. The earlier ones had convex cheeks.

This is definitely a later model, probably late 70's to 80's.
The earlier ones were more refined and the paint was more metallic looking than this is.
It definitely looks like a late production Mann edge axe.

On hammers, the mini hatchet, and a some carpentry type hatchets the M stamped into the head stands for Vaughn and Bushnell mfg.
This one has the M stamped onto it which obviously points to Mann edge like is widely speculated for many late production no name axes with this particular M stamped into them.
