There are several slingshots I have seen that have wheels like a compound Bow has. Trouble is when I found them I had 0 cash.

Now I am looking for the most Bad Arss slingshot out there that can still be drawn

Any suggestions or links?

Saw these on Madison Parker's site:
www.bulletproofprimitivesupply.com, I think. Can't access the page right now (if I have the address right. Here's his other contact info:

I have not had any luck storing sling shots. The rubbers don't seem to have much of a shelf-life. The one I carried under my truck seat lost its' elasticity and the rubbers cracked very quickly. One hanging in my shop broke down in about a year and a half. Simular to dry-rot on a stored tire. Kept one in a drawer in the house and it was useless after a couple of years of storage. The slingshot rubbers seem to be a high maintance item in my experience.

There are various products you can apply to rubber to keep it elastic. A big problem with them is that any small tear, cut or puncture (which is easily made) will turn into a large gaping hole as soon as the first shot is fired. Some epoxy can usually deal with this to some degree.

I have 2 of the original "Wrist Rocket" slingshots and one of the filding ones all from Saunders archery. I would say thate ven after 25 years, they're probably one of the best out there. I've found a medical supply store that I can buy my own tubing from, so I replace the bands preodically.

I don't know if the new wrist rockets power bands would be interchangable with surgical tubing, but you can buy the basic wrist rocket for under $20.00. The only breakage problems I've had was the plastic caps that hold the tubing on the slingshot, I had some made out of aluminum and havent replaced one in 20 years.

How much damage can one of these slingshots do?

I'm thinking in terms of game...whats the largest animal that should/could be attempted with a slingshot?

Just wondering...I don't know much about these things.

Thanks.

Rabbit, squirrel, birds, lizards, snakes, etc. Small game...

for long term storage why not practice with a traditional 'david and golliath' style slongshot? there is no rubber to perish, you could even make one in the field from some animal skin and I would imainge that used properly theyre more powerful...

A 1/2" stainless steel ball moving at 200+ fps under 7 yards will do lots of damage on "two legged" critters! OUCH  I keep thinking about how nasty it would be to take a shot on the jaw!

I'm not sure if i've ever seen a david style slingshot in the flesh...

Hmm... anyone have plans as to how to build one?

I dont want to sound foolish and may be missing the point but its just a rectangle of leather with a piece of cord about 4ft long tied to each side through lanyard holes... if you have Lofty Wisemans SAS survival book he tells you in there in the weapons section

At most big sports retailers/ outdoors stores they have a black slingshot with yellow inserts and a yellow tube. this tube had proven more durable in the 7 years ive had it than most, and this is the only sling shot with a site on it that i know of. that being said it, has a long rod(the front site) sticking out of the front of the handle making it bulky

As for the power band storage problem, buy a set of power bands for 3.99 leave them in the shrink wrap package, and wrap in black plastic bag. After reading this thread, I went out and dug around my truck and found a set that I had done this with 12 yrs ago, and out of curiosity i opened the package...they are as good as new so I went ahead and replaced the ones on my 'rocket they were a little worn anyway....now I have to get a new set lol, but at least I know the technique works. As far as the best slingshot around, Beeman used to make a compound slingshot where the bands ran up hollow tubes that were part of the wrist support(which went half way up your forearm), around pulleys at the top of the forks then back to the pouch. It retailed for around 60.00 back in the mid 80's...I don't know if they still make it as I can't find it online, but a friend had one of those and it appeared to shoot twice as fast as my standard wrist rocket I had at the time. As for how powerful these things are, at 15 yards I can shoot.36 cal lead balls right through 1/2 inch plywood with my rocket from full draw (of course I am 6'5" so my full draw might be a little more than some other people's). I would be willing to bet that at 15yds a .36 lead ball to the chest of a person would be fatal out of the same wrist rocket. These things aren't the toy that everybody assumes they are.

UV radiation (that is, sunlight) is what causes rubber to degrade. As Bigcustom notes, wrapping your powerbands allows them to last nrealy forever. I have a set wrapped in storage right now, but I wnet to more trouble than BC did (now, after reading his p[ost, I'm wondering WHY  ). Anyway, Iput the new bands in a plastic sandwich bag, then wrapped that in aluminum foil (as a light barrier) and lastly in duct tape (to prevent rips and for further UV protection). I'd had them wrapped for about 6 years now, and have no doubt that they'll be totally serviceable when I need them in the future.

David meet Golith.... http://www.slinging.org/historygallery.html V_Shrake is right on the money. I would suggest you Learn how to make a simple SS,forked tree limb-heavy gauage wire, rubber band's, leather tounge from old shoe made into a pouch. Jelly Bean's for indoor ammo marble's ,.38-.45 lead ball's for hunting. I had a WHAMO SS with the ability to shoot arrow's..I was young.... also an orig.Wrist rocket which I use during deer hunting season to flush them out the brush for my hunting partner

Get a Wrist Rocket type slingshot at Wal-Mart ($5.00?), learn how to use it (!), and use the aforementioned lead balls. Powerful, quiet, simple, and lethal. I've used these type of slingshots since the seventies (still have a couple from that era), they work. Do the bands deteriorate? Yep, just stay up on maintenance, no biggie.

Use Crosman Pellgun oil to help preserve the rubber tubes. Do NOT use normal all purpose gun or sewing machine oil, as it will ruin the rubber in no time. The Pellgun oil (similar to engine oil), will help the rubber to remain pliable and intact. It is intended for airgun seals. But the bands are cheap to replace anyhow.
