After reading through the "Stickey" section I decided to go for the craftsman 2 x 42 belt grinder as a introductory tool but of course when I go to place the order it's unavailable on the Sears website . Additionally it is not listed on the craftsman site either . Does anyone know if the model has been discontinued? I've seen several setups that look extremely similar to the craftsman model but that are made by names I have never heard of before like Dayton and Palmgren.

Does anyone have any experience with those brands? I've sent an email a few days ago to see when the 2 x 42 will be available again but I am still waiting to hear back.

In the event that the craftsman 2 x 42 is no longer available what would be a good runner up to that model as beginners grinder? My available budget for the item is ~$200.

I'm also looking for an entry level belt sander/grinder for knife making and have run into the same dilemma. Thinking about shelling out the extra cash for the Grizzly G1015 [$500] which looks like something usable, but I wanted to know if there was anything new on the market I should be aware of in the $100-$500 range that's all inclusive.

Go to sears directly, the physical store, not the website. Every sears i walked through inside a mall has a tool section and the 2x42 was there.

I have a Dayton, withslightly smaller b elts and 10 inch disk grinder with reb uilt motor and stand all for $450..must pick up in MD
