Loose Kydex Sheath... Help!!!

I just got my Becker Necker in the mail today. Looks like it will be a good user, but the Kydex sheath barely holds the knife. If I drop it with just the slack of the neck cord it came with, the jolt will drop it out no problem. NOT A GOOD THING!

The contour of the mold looks good and there are no gaps. How can I make it hold the knife more securely? Help.

Actually I believe that just heating the sheath with a hair dryer and allowing to cool again while the knife is in it will make it a bit more snug.

A hair dryer? How is rubbing a kydex sheath with a towel going to tighten it?

I just handled one of those yesterday. The sheath was also a little loose, but not as bad as yours. Another suggestion is to do what Kit Carson had on an F4 sheath I've got. Drill a hole near the open end and put a Chicago screw in, with an o-ring. Then you'll be able to adjust the tension anytime.

I had a problem with a kydex sheath for a ...I don't know the terminology...customized, limited production knife from a maker that is no longer in business.

The blade started to get a bit loose in the sheath, not that it would fall out, but it had an annoying rattle when walking. The problem probably occured because the knife/sheath combo worked so well that it was used - enough to wear the sheath.

I would have sent to the maker if I could have, but a little heat from a cigarette lighter and some pressure with vice-grips solved the problem. Kydex is very easy to work with, somewhat forgiving.

i highly recomend you talk to the folks at becker before you go modifying the sheath.... molding a kydex sheath involves alot more than just heating it some w/ a hair dryer and letting it form....... molding a sheath to a knife requires heat control, special molds, and exact placement of the knife in the sheath so the distance/angle from the lock point on the knife to the first rivet is correct... an experienced kydex maker can probably tighten your sheath for you, but i bet the factory would prefer to do it for you, so you don't have a warrantee/liability problem.....good luck

skintback,

I would agree that actually molding a kydex sheath involves more than just heating the material and pushing it onto a knife. But adjusting the fit of an already molded piece is as easy as could be. I have done it a number of times myself without any problems.

yep. Just heat-gun, squeeze & hold. If it's too tight, apply a little heat w/no squeeze & it will loosen. A heat-gun or hair-drier is best. Lighters, ovens and boiling water can also work but are much more trouble.

Hey Guys...

SK is correct..
Drop Will Fennell a note and he'll take care of you ASAP....

Adjusting a sheath can be tricky,,and going at it with a heat gun may make it worse...

If you have further problems,,don't hesitate to drop me a note..

Is Will Fennell with Becker?

I thought about the Chicago Screw, but there is not much room to play with and it will have to be very short.

Hey QB...

Will is with Camillus,,their forum can be found in the manufacturers section...

Becker is now part of Camillus....

Yaa don't do the Chicago screw thing.. A well made synthetic sheath doesn't need all that nasty hardware and Tricks...The kydex should hold it on it's own..

These things happen with all mass produced sheaths, and Will is ontop of things there and will take good care of you...
