Louisiana knife laws

Okay, so I'm going to Louisiana this Tuesday and I need to decide what knives I'll be bringing along for the trip. I did some research regarding the knife laws and this is all I found:

A. Illegal carrying of weapons is:

(1) The intentional concealment of any firearm, or other instrumentality customarily used or intended for probable use as a dangerous weapon, on one's person; or

(2) The ownership, possession, custody or use of any firearm, or other instrumentality customarily used as a dangerous weapon, at any time by an enemy alien; or

(3) The ownership, possession, custody or use of any tools, or dynamite, or nitroglycerine, or explosives, or other instrumentality customarily used by thieves or burglars at any time by any person with the intent to commit a crime; or

(4) The manufacture, ownership, possession, custody or use of any switchblade knife, spring knife or other knife or similar instrument having a blade which may be automatically unfolded or extended from a handle by the manipulation of a button, switch, latch or similar contrivance.

(5)(a) The intentional possession or use by any person of a dangerous weapon on a school campus during regular school hours or on a school bus. “School” means any elementary, secondary, high school, or vo-tech school in this state and “campus” means all facilities and property within the boundary of the school property. “School bus” means any motor bus being used to transport children to and from school or in connection with school activities.

This is all really vague. So, is any knife legal to carry besides switchblades and autos? What about concealed carry? Ideally, I would like to carry a small fixed blade in my back pocket, but would this be legal? What do y'all think?

Looks like a fixed blade openly carried is ok. Assisted openers would not be legal by the wording used in the law. Hope someone from the state that knows the enforcement of the law ( or case law) answers.

The only case law that I could find for Louisiana was State of Louisiana v. Plase J. Ordon. Ordon, a convicted felon (cocaine possession several years earlier), was found by police to be carrying a 4" lock-blade knife in his back pocket. He was arrested, tried and convicted for being a felon carrying a dangerous weapon. He argued, unsuccessfully, at his appeal that he worked in landscaping and that he used the knife for work. A state appeals court upheld his conviction and sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a $1,000 fine. If you are a convicted felon, you would be wise not to carry any type of knife while in Louisiana.

Thank you for the info.. I'm no convicted felon, but I think I'll just carry a mini grip to be safe rather than sorry.. I feel louisiana knife laws would be much more lenient than california's laws, but it seems that's not the case.. The more I read on other states laws I realize more and more that cali's knife laws really aren't that bad

here's a little bit of info

I've never had an issue with anything, nor has anyone I know. No LEO has ever been able to tell me what specifically is restricted either. You can pull over on the highway, trek into the woods, shoot & field dress something for dinner. Or you can clean your fish anywhere they won't run you off for the impending odor. Knives generally aren't too closely eyeballed.

What you are carrying is only relevant if they WANT it to be . . . A folding knife with the clip showing will not cause you a problem. Now a fixed blade in a sheath while walking through the mall will, regardless of what the law says.

I have lived and carried in Louisiana all my life . . . Never questioned about a knife. . . Common sense is the rule here. . .
