My girlfriend gave me a Lowe's Task Force Hatchet for an Easter present and it works great. I went out this morning and cut a small pine tree down with it. As I was cutting I was able to keep a very nice grip on the handle. The handle is shaped in a way that is very comfortable in my hand. It is also fairly thick so the shock was dispersed throughout my hand better than some other hatchets I have used. At the bottom of the handle there is a rubber cap. The head weighs 1.25 pounds. The balance point is about an inche below the head. The blade stayed sharp and the only damage to the hatchet when I was done was some minor scratching on the head. The hatchet can be carried in the supplied sheath. The belt loops allow it to be worn by your left hand. This hatchet also comes with a lifetime warranty. At only $9.96 american dollars, it is a bargain.

Sounds like you have a great hatchet and a great girl there! How was the edge on it?

The edge was about average for what you would find in a hardware store. It seemed a bit uneven. It was almost as if it was sharper on the top and bottom than in the middle. However, it did hold up very well. The pine tree I cut was almost exactly six inches in diameter. After I was done cutting it down the edge was exactly the same as when I started. I did touch up the edge when I was done. It worked well before so now it should be really nice. The hatchet seemed to cut through very fast too. Even with the factory edge it didn't take long and this was with me looking over my shoulder every few seconds to see if any angry neighbors were coming. I will try to get pictures of the hatchet as soon as possible. I would like to take them in sunlight but it is cloudy where I live right now. Maybe in a day or so it will be bright enough to take some.

Here is a little story for you while you are waiting for the pictures. The place where I cut the tree was off to the side of a jogging path in my neighborhood. I must have walked about a mile from my house to get to where I wanted to be. The entire time I was walking I had the Hatchet on my belt using the sheath which came with it. I was almost trying to hide the fact I was carrying the hatchet because I felt like a dork. The trip home was different. I almost felt like showing off the hatchet to everyone. I walked with the hatchet facing the street and I felt good about it. I may still be a dork, but I'm proud of my little hatchet.

I finally have some pictures. They didn't come out too well. The hatchet is next to an 18 inch metal ruler. The hatchet measures about 15 inches from the rubber tip on the handle to the top of the head. The head is about 5 inches long from the square part to the edge of the blade. The blade is 3 inches from corner to corner. I guess that means the cutting edge is greater than 3 inches if you account for the curve on the edge. Here is a link to the album on Sony's Imagestation. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4287032813. I Love you too, Natalie! You really are the best thing that has ever come into my life. "You make me want to be a better person". I think you know what I'm talking about. I love you.
