I'm wanting to get the Luminox Recon Pointman, which is pretty expensive for what i usually spend on watches, i just want to know. does anyone here have experience with Luminox products? have you had any significant problems with yours? and are there any quality alternatives for that price point?

I have a Luminox. The fit and finish is merely okay; I'd say that they are slightly overpriced, but there is value in the tritium lume. I also have a Traser with tritium that I find myself wearing more often.

I've had a luminix for the past 10-12 years, (not sure, may be a few more).
its been a great watch, its not one of the rubber and plastic ones. stainless steel band and case. glows bright, worked great until last DEC. when i dropped it, and it started messing up. haven't sent it in for service yet, but I will.

Now, here is what I've heard. the luminox of today isn't the luminox of 10 years ago.
If I was gonna replace mine instead of sending it in to be fixed I'd get a traser.

A buddy of mine bought a luminox field watch,(past 5 years) the second hand came loose, he sent it back and the minute hand came loose after he got it back
He was splitting a lot of wood tho, so that could have done it. I beat the hell out of mine before it messed up.
good luck, I like mine but the new ones aren't supposed to be as nice as the old ones. (I hear)
One more thing, there are a lot of knock off luminox out now, so get a real one.

I have 2 of them and both have been terrific watches.

My first Luminox fell from my bedside table to the carpeted floor and the second hand fell off. They look great on the web or from a few feet away, but when you have one in your hand, they feel incredibly cheap. Everything is plastic, even the crown.

I found a great deal recently on another Luminox and bought one for myself and several to give as gifts. I thought I would wear mine when I wanted something very light, but ultimately I sold it. My son LOVES the one I gave him and has done ocean swims with it.

The reason to buy a Luminox is the tritium. It is like nothing else and you should try it if you haven't already. Just bear in mind that you are getting a nice-looking watch with a a great gadget (tritium) but I wouldn't expect it to be tough. I would never consider paying full retail either. For that price, you can do much, much better.

I've had several luminox watches they are cool but not nearly as tough as a g shock, crystal gets scratched and broken easily.Have noticed price has went up in past few year also. Many people love then, I just haven't had good luck with them.Could just be me lol!

Gshock being tougher than a Luminox isn't suprising (less moving parts) but comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges

Really good watches although I like Traser better. The quality depends on the model IMO. Luminox warranty is not worth the paper it is printed on. I bought a world traveler from Cabelas that had a bad gasket from the factory,a light rain on it would get water in the watch.Luminox wanted more than the watch cost to fix it. Cabelas stepped up and took care of it.

I've had a steel Luminox for 5 years now. It's never missed a beat. Even without my glasses on, I can tell the approximate time in the dark.

I got one of the original Navy SEAL Luminox watches as a gift about 15 years ago. I thought it was great and, in the dark, I could really see the time.

I took it on a diving trip to Belize in 2001, however, and it literally fell apart. I took it on a dive, nothing serious for a watch supposedly tough enough for SEALS. It filled up with water; it still ran, though not accurately. By the middle of the trip the hands had come off and it finally died. It was a bummer, as I really dug it.

The toughest watch I have ever owned was a Fortress. I don't think they are in business anymore, but if you can find one on EBay, they are bombproof. I wear one climbing. For those of you that don't climb, it is a sport that eats equipment, but my Fortress still keeps going. And it was less than $100 brand new.

Ive been wearing a marathon TSAR for about 3 years now, and I do construction work, it takes a serious beating and doesn't look any worse for wear. It's low profile enough, looks wise to not get stolen and the stainless body and black face go with everything. Not to mention just changing the band makes her look totally different. The glow is bright enough that my wife doesnt like when I wear it sleeping because its like a dim, green flashlight :) Best watch ever and when this one kicks the bucket (if ever), I will have no problem driving my happy butt to Va and getting another one...worth every penny!

I bought two of that same watch and gave one to my Son when he was in the military. After about 18 months mine fell apart the same way with the hands just flopping around after a mild impact while loading a truck. My Son's failed in less than two years also.I really liked the watch but I've had thirty dollar watches that were much more rugged.I'll never purchase another Luminox because of this.
