Am new to all this so I hope I am posting in the right place. Got a hold of a bayonet. Found out on the net it is a M3 Trench Knife. But I can't find my specific lettering referenced "anywhere". Mine has U.S. M3 A.C.C. on the guard between the blade and handle. I can find some that reference "Imperial" and such but none with the "A.C.C." Can anyone help with the history? I really would appreciate any info. Thanks "Fuzzy"Mike

ACC stands for Aerial Cutlery Co. of Marinette WI, which is one of at least 9 makers of M3's. Aerial made a total of 51,784 M3's (total M3 production was in excess of 2.5 million).

fuzzymike, actually it isn't a bayonet. It looks like a bayonet becaue many of the bayonets produced for US troops from late WWII through Viet Nam used the M3 as a pattern. It is actually a fighting knife with a little utility value as well. It was usually issued to troops who had the M1 Carbine or the .45 Thompson or other sub-machinegun because the early ones wouldn't mount a bayonet. It was also issued to many airborne troops, regardless of what they carried as a personal weapon. It is collectable and not to be given up easily!
