In the johnson line of ka bar knives there is a pocket knife that resembles the bk4. Its nice in that when i use it, im reminded of how its is like using a mini-machax and it makes me smile. Now a pocket Machax wouldnt be very good at chopping or battoning as a Machax, but the recurve does have its own uses in a pocket knife.

I doubt Ethan will ever design a folder as they arent exactly aligned with his no nonsense hard use philosophy. Not to mention ka bar uses taiwan(as far as i know) for folders and Ethan would prefer American made. But who knows Ethan may surprise us someday with a folder(not trying to hint that he should).

full disclosure: I am not advocating or for a folding becker. This is just a knife with similar designs to beckers and may have been influenced by his designs. For work, this knife is fine but i generally prefer most any of my other knives.

At one point I wanted a Becker folder. Not so much now. Ethan is exceptional at designing fixed blades, I don’t know if that’ll translate to folders. There are a lot of exceptional companies making folders now. Save for the fact it isn’t made in the USA, in my mind the folder that’s the most Becker like is the RAT 2. It’s not flashy or expensive, just a heck of a good workhorse.

Back to BK4 influences; have you seen the BM Jungle Bolo?

It was hard for me to take the rat1 out of my pocket to try other knives. That just goes to show how it really is all you need in a folder. Sadly, people were kinda scared of such a large blade(i do need a rat2) not to mention it snaps out with authority. I agree about quality companies making quality folders these days. Theres quite a bit of competition at all levels of value. Im not sure where a becker folder would shine.

That jungle bolo is like the machax without the kukri influence. I like how the machax takes the principle of the bolo machete with its heavy tip and gives it that forward power of the kukri. I understand some people arent wild about that aggressive angle change and that jungle bolo would really be ideal. Thanks for the comparison
