The machax has been put to bed for good. Now that it has been an appropriate amount of time, I can come out of mourning and wipe the tears away. I am prepared for the long machaxless winter ahead. I have a good stash of them tucked away in the closet. Probably have enough for me and any kids or grandkids I may have someday. As sad as I am to see it go I have hope for the future. After all, kabar is the 4th generation machax maybe there will be a 5th later on down the road.

Let me say in advance this is a long read. Really combining about 4 threads into one because they are all machax related.

Anyway, I have been very busy with machax related projects this summer. When I was at the gathering my new favorite mod derekH gave me an original becker machax sheath to go on my warrior machax. That sheath is awesome! I don't know if Ethan designed it or someone else but it works great! The straps on the back work great for belt carry or MOLLE. I liked this sheath so much I wanted another for one of my users.

So I made one: and it sucked. Made another. It was ok. Made one last one and I messed up the stamping a bit, but it's fine (I've never been a patient craftsmen or even a craftsmen for that matter). I don't know what happened to me, but I was hit with the biggest OCD attack ever.

Well, I did get two useable sheaths out of it (and one really crappy one that I'm not going to show you haha).

Now I have three generations of machax all in matching sheaths.

I did make some changes to the retention strap. I love the original paracod loop method the old sheath has but I really wanted a leather strap on the new sheaths. Because I had to have a leather strap I had to add a new feature so I wouldn't cut the strap taking the blade out like I do on the kabar sheaths. The pin that holds the strap on is actually a snap so you can fold the strap behind the sheath. I just leave it folded and snapped when I use it. The sheath holds it in just fine and I can pull it out and put it back a thousand times without cutting the strap.

Now my latest project involves a camillus machax that I've had for a while. When I got it the condition was less than subpar. Incase anyone doesn't know the cam machax is the worst version. The .25" thickness and bad grind angles combine to make it not a fun tool to use. So I wanted to fix that. After a few hours on the belt grinder this new convex machax is one bad mofo! It's almost a full convex, but I did add a slight secondary convex edge to it. I failed to get any photos of the process or good glamour shots afterwards.

It's still a bit too heavy and too thick (like my ex), but it slices now! It's about 20oz now, the weight on my stock camillus is around 22oz so I took off roughly 2oz.

Just got back from camping yesterday. Went out to a small place north of Memphis on the mighty Mississippi River. It was not the best time to test the new blade, we got rained out. Spent most of the time in the van playing cards. Weather cleared the next day and I got to take it out and do the usual camp tasks with it. Chops like a dream, splits wood even better. Even made a descent feather stick with it.

All in all a fun camp trip, got to play with a lot of beckers and came home with a bunch of blisters on my hands. I also got to put some real hard use on my bk20 for the first time. I have some mixed feelings about it, but its a pretty great blade.

Before I left for the trip I was thinking I needed to give it a good vinegar soak to protect the blade. But I didn't do it and learned my lesson. The campsite was flooded after all the rain. I took it back to the sander to take some mild rust off and then strait into the vinegar. It came out with a nice patina.

It's now time for the giveaway portion of this thread. I'm giving away a 710 kydex sheath for the machax. It's an open spine dangler sheath that fits the stock kabar machax.

Here is how you win: Post a photo of your machax out in the wild having a good time and enjoying life to fullest.

I want this thread to be like a photo montage you would see at a machax funeral.

Winner will be picked by my wife in one week (she's pretty excited about having absolute power *insert her evil laugh here*).

Love the machax. My favorite big knife I've ever used. Here's some pics of mine I took just yesterday.

I still have the factory sheath, and could benefit from the chance at an upgrade. Thank you for your generosity!

Before and after pics. Paint was wearing thin so a strip job was in order.

Thank you

Very good idea placing the button behind the sheath holding the strap back.

Don't owe a 4, but gifted my Dad one for FD, will see if he's been using it and post pics for him.

Nice job on the sheaths.

Say Heah Boys and Girls, Yeah, I never stocked up on my Machaxe BK-4 intentionally, But my mouth watered when the Bundok BK-20 was available in a Limited Edition. Even if I already had the BK-4 and the BK-5 which is also one of my Fav's Outdoor/Martial Arts Knives, Yeah, I can do everything with it I can with my BK-7 but lighter. Anyhow I almost lost out because I was going to wait for the price to go down because I already had the two, But boy am I glad I bought the L. E. from a great Tomar Ka-bar's. Infact I bought the last one, Ladies and Gents, It's everything I expected, and more. Anyhow when I first bought my BK-4 I bought it as a chopper since it was a little lighter, We'll my BK-9 chopped better, Now in the Summer a long knife is necessary for the brambles in my state. But again I like my Parangatang a little better because it's a little longer and my Rodent Rucki is my Fav. besides. But just because it doesn't look like a conventional large knife, The 9"+ blade shines as a large knife. That Curved section slices great with great control by the handle to do my very fine work like making a trap. Then of course it is blade heavy so it can chop good enough. It's length is sufficient to clear some The point is its a 9"+ large knife and that's something important to understand. Yeah, A great size that's very manageable to use in the bush. I can team it up with my Smaller knives and that's my Fav. carry a large/small knife adding a Folding say. I like scouting out new area's and not often but a couple of times I simply ran out of light. With a good rig like that, No problemo to spend a night out. Of course, I carry atleast a Haversack with my other C's. Yeah, They finally discontinued the BK-4 and the BK-5 But I won't be surprised they become collectors, I bought my Beckers for the steel which is the same as the C. S. CarbonV. Think about it having a 9"+ blade as a large knife with good control. I hope this helps and my $00.02

Say Heah again Boys and Girls But the last time I did a weekend in the bush, I teamed my BK-4 with my BK-2, Both preformed great together and complimented eachother, Yeah, I had my Bacho Laplander and my Mora 510 as my neck knife which I even wear around the house. Scouting, Searching for Fanwood, or just for a Afternoon Delight a hot cup of coffee on the open fire and a baked potato, Sure you prolly can find better. But not at this price, 0170-6C is a awesome steel, 1095 CroVan is the same (zknives.com)

Now THAT is some good porn!

Have you ever seen a black phosphate warrior?

yup. have one :D probably posted pix too.

if you look close on the original leather sheath, it should have a makers name on it. i don't recall who. Ethan knows though.

Wow much smaller top edge on that then on the chrome models.

I know there are about 40-50 warriors, but any ideas on how many cincin machax were made?

Cool sheath efforts, KJ....and an excellent GAW, too. I don't have a lot of pics of mine in the wild....can't wield the camera and Machaxen simultaneously......but I'll play.

And I have a non-modified one, too:

The really cool Machax sheath was designed by me and made by Gary Brommeland...... He does very nice leather holsters.... Those sheaths were made from 10oz" English tanned" leather and all mil spec hardware, even the eyelets. Gary's work is second to none.....

Those are some good looking sheaths KJ!
Very generous GAW by the way.
I've always been a fan of 710's spine sheaths. He does incredible work!

The Machax has been my go to woods tool for awhile now.
But believe it or not, I can't find a whole lot of pics...
Here's a few:

And my all time favorite Machax pic:

Here's a quick vid from my 2013 night time one stick fire challenge:

The machax plus some ingenuity and knowhow are all you need to survive in the bush...

El Machaxen and some bow drill fun... :D

I picked this up with the bk20. I need to spend more time with the bk4 soon! Great GAW. Since I haven't used mine yet I'll pass from faking an entry!
