Since somebody decided to break into my apartment and steal my laptop and my grandfathers pistol I'm left bumming a netbook from parents until I can buy another computer, broke college student that I am I don't have a whole lot of money but decided to move forward instead of backwards and use the opportunity to buy a Mac. Ive never owned a mac before and Im haveing a tough time figuring out the best deal for my money. Im stuck between the macbook and the 13" macbook pro. What do yall think is the best bang for the buck.

i have the normal macbook and it suits me well.

also one thing to keep in mind with apple is you get a student discount (10% i believe)

I bought one of the first unibody aluminium macbooks (nowadays it would be called a macbook pro)
its been a solid little machine for over a year and a half, i have done no maintenance to it - other than upgrading the hard drive and installing Snow Leopard (the newest OS)

it has been dragged to work with me everyday, and other than some very light scratches from being put in and taken out of a bag, it looks pretty new.

the glossy screen can be a bit reflective if your using it outside, the battery life is great, and you will wonder how you ever did without an illuminated keyboard.

either machine you buy will be good, but i would pick the macbook pro

Buy the most laptop you can presently afford. This is 15 years in the technology consulting business talking.

The most you can afford because it will last much longer before it's specs are obsolete.

I'm a Aplleholic.
Get the Pro.
More accessories available
More future proof
won't fade, turn yellow or crack like the Macbook is subject to do(Iv'e seen this many many times)
Backlit keyboard on the Pro
and so on and so on........

+1 on the Macbook Pro

For me Firewire 800 seals the deal.

On the online Apple store look for the refurb section on the lower left corner of the site. You can get some good deals there.

Im using a Macbook Pro right now, I've had it for a few years, it's a good computer, but it takes some getting used to.

Another vote for the 13 inch Pro. I have other computers including a 27 inch iMac and my macbook gets more use than all the rest combined.

I just recently got a 13" MacBook Pro to replace my 5 yo 12" iBook G4 (before that, I had a G3 iBook) and it was worth the extra $200 to not have to stare at white plastic anymore after 9 years.:p

J/K. Either one will serve you very well. For me, the aforementioned Firewire port and backlit keyboard as well as the SD card slot made it the clear winner over the MacBook.

The great thing about that one is that they used a solid state drive in them, much more expensive then what they use in them now.
It also had a removable battery, always a plus.

I have the 13 inch pro, typing on it now, I love it, have not had any problems with
it and can honestly say I am glad I got it over the base model.
The major feature it has over the base is the light up dash, perfect
for late night research or whatever. The only other difference I have
found is the fact that the camera adjust's the brightness depending
on the lighting of your surroundings, a nice touch.
Overall it looks a lot better and cleaner, up to date.
