Mail Order Catalogs?

Lately - that is, last couple of months - I have noticed a big empty space in my mailbox where the catalogs used to be. Yeah, there are a few (L.L.Bean most notably) that still show up regularly, but the ones from knife dealers, surplus shops and similar purveyors of goodies seem to have either stopped or been cut way back. I am on quite a few mailing lists and have bought my share of blades and lotsa other stuff from mail order dealers, so it should not be a case of my being "cleaned" off mailing lists.

Last year I noticced that I did not get the usual batch of Christmas catalogs from mymany of my usual places and have yet to receive a single knife catalog in the new year. I've called a few and been assured that catalogs were "in the mail".......

I live in New York City and for sure there has been some problem with mail delivery here, but it hasn't stopped most of the of the junk mail from arriving.

So, anyone else notice this problem?

I'm in northern New Jersey, a whole different world from NYC as far as the PO is concerned, and I'm getting the usual catalogs and flyers and political mail, and, and, and ... no slowdown here.

I used to work in the PO in Manhattan, and I don't even want to know what kind of problems my guys had with Church Street Station closed down by the WTC disaster next door. At least they all got out OK.

You could ask at your local post office if there's been any trouble getting mail to them.

I never considered it until you mentioned it, but now that you do it seems like I used to get more catalogs from companies like Atlanta Cutlery, Cutlery Shoppe, and so forth, as well as the usual treasure trove from Bud K Worldwide. Of course, the slowdown could simply indicate that I've rarely ordered from these companies, and thus have been removed from their lists. I still get catalogs all the time from Smoky Mountain Knife Works, where I buy most of my knives.

I have twice requested catalogs form Atlanta and from Smokey Mountain over a period of 3 months and am still waiting. I think the time frame is enough to put the blame someplace else besides the US Post Office. These are both companies that I have delt with in the past which makes it al the more anoying that their catalogs aren't forthcomming. Oh, well.....lots of other dealers out there.

Knives Plus is the best mail-order catalog out there IMO. However they have no prescence on the web, and I can't remember how I started getting their catalog. They are competitive to most online dealers even in bencmade/MT prices as well. Always some great deals.
