Well guys, it's up, and the first mark is online.

As I receive more marks in the coming weeks I will be modifying the site to be much simpler navigation I.E: only a thumbnail and makers name on the main page, with a seperate page that will open when you click on the thumbnail with all the other info.

The database will be searchable, but that function won't show up for a few weeks, as I'm still writing the code.... :(

If you would like to register your mark, just find the link on the page for instructions and the form to fill out and send in.

The Registry

Hopefully I'll be adding at least one more mark by the weekend, but we'll see.

Feed back is appreciated,

Tony

Tony this is fantastic! I haven't looked at the registry but I have a couple of questions. Sorry if they're redundant, I'll have time to look at things there later today I hope.

Will you have a way to register multiple marks for a maker? For example, marks that evolve over time or changes in a maker's career.

Any plans to fill in with other than submissions? Historical marks, those of early makers, deceased makers, etc. It would be great to be able to identify a mark on a knife you have no idea who made.

I just want to thank you for this, it's a project that I've always wanted to do and have corresponded with others about with no result. Rest assured I'll get mine done and off to you shortly.

Thank you

Yup, as many as needed, and all will remain online

Yes, but I'll need them sent to me as high quality digital photo's or scans, since obviously the makers won't be able to send the steel cards.

Your welcome! Glad to do it.

Tony

PS Is there a moderator who could mke this a sticky thread due to the public service and knifemaking content? Would that be appropriate?

Another makers mark's are online, I'll be adding better quality photos as I get the chance, my photographer is out of town, so I'm making do with my digital hand held... I 'll at least find a tripod over the weekend... :)

Tony

Wow, thats cool! I can't wait till there are trillions in there, and the knifemakers of the world shall be recognized!

Brian,

Your mark is up at the Registry.

Could I get you to fill out the form send in a card as well? I'm trying to get everything as organized as possible.

Thanks!
Tony

Tony,
I sent you a digital card. Will that work?
Thanks

Maybe Brian just asked and you just answered my question: Is it okay to do totally digital submissions without sending you the actual mark in steel? That would be no problem with my current mark, and since I used to just stamp my initials with a letter set I could replicate that too, but it wouldn't be the same letter set...

Also, I keep thinking of finding earlier maker's marks to submit, which for me is the real value of your undertaking, a reference for collectors.

A digital card will work for older marks, but I'm trying to get all the current marks on a steel card for the sake of consistency, Currently the photographs (untill my friend gets back) aren't perfect, but with the cards on hand they can be re-taken and updated.

Another benefit of having the card on hand is that if any legal issues should arise where your mark is involved, I can send the mark and all relevant info to the court system where the case is being tried.

A few years ago my touch mark was stolen, and since I didn't have any Proof that it was mine other than my word, the jerk who ended up with it (never did figure out if he stole it or just got it from somewhere else) kept on using it and selling the (low quality) work as "Antique"

As for the older marks, please feel free to submit them digitally, I'm glad to add them to the registry, but please only submit marks of known makers and all the pertinent information I.E; when the mark was used (If known) the makers location at that time, and if the maker is still in business how to contact them (If this is the case, I'll contact them and ask for permission before posting the mark and info.)

I appreciate the help guys!

I think that should fix it now Scott,

Any more problems, just let me know :)

Tony

Thanks Tony I now appreciate your reasoning for the steel cards. I'll get mine made this weekend. I think you're doing a real service for makers and I hope it really takes off. Well done.

Thanks Tony,
I'll get you something in a few weeks.
Brian
