Coming along nicely. Taking my time...letting the Jasco do all the work. Laser etching looks good bare....

Stripping Complete. Commence Polishing....

All in all...the Jasco works. You need to give it more dwell time than the old coating. I gave it an hour total. Came off pretty easily, though alot more goopy. The edges and inside I cleaned out with at fine point xacto knife. Got some of that crap on the inside of my forearm...holy hell that stuff burns. Got to the sink with the quickness.

Finished. Polished as far as as I can get it with 1200grit wet/dry. The last pic with the wrap has a bit more polish. Now, with the wrap (which still works with the sheath) it feels perfect.

I'd like to see how it holds up. Maybe you will check on it only to find a dry knife with thicker coating. Like it feeds off of stripper and tears of modders everywhere.

Way to go! If I were saving it, I'd keep it black to protect the metal, but my users all get stripped.

It doesn't stand a chance. I have it sitting in front of a heater fan as we speak. Even if it did...it cannot withstand a scotch brite wheel. I'm just biting my fingernails and hoping I don't find any weird steel marks under all that coating like I did with my BK14.

I just can't stand the look of black blades. Knives were meant to shine.

One if the manufacturing benefits of coated blades is hiding imperfections. I wouldn't worry about some you may find.

Its the number one reason for coating blades, I think.

It cuts down on the time to make, therefor, the price.

Tool marks don't bother me none, I usually have marks on the blade anyways, from where I beat it through something, with a club.

Coolness.

I am probably gonna strip mine when I get it, after etching in the logos.

Cool thread.

yeah, I'm curious as to how deep the new logos are. I may put some etchant on them before I strip mine (if/when I ever get a new coated one) like I'm always seeing esee folks doing

Same here. I at least don't want to lose the BK&T logo. Model number doesn't bother me much if that goes.

Clear pic of the finished (pre-polished) product added to post 1.

Keep baking soda around when you are stripping with Jasco. If you get some on ya, douse it with a little baking soda. It doesn't help the burn, but you sure look like you know what you are doing. :D

Naw, seriously, it takes the burn out of it.

Got some on my nose last time. Yep, stupid fly was buzzing my face and my reflexes were faster than my brain.

Looks really good, though. I'm glad to see the etch will last.

Well, I better wear sandals when I show up for the next meeting then, all of mine are on my toes.

I hate to be THAT guy but I don't like it. Thanks for this thread. I was debating on getting one or not but I love the saber on my 16. Nice work. Just not my cup of tea seeing it stripped.
