You guys are not going to believe this one. I have been working on a series of YouTube videos of how to modify an Old Hickory 7" butcher knife into a Kephart style knife. I posted one as a response to Dave's YouTube video Bulletproof Bushcraft on a Budget Part 1 . He liked my video so much that he actually sent me a message about it and posted it on one of his Facebook groups.

Here is a snippet from one of his messages to me.

Okay brother I don't say this often but that video Impressed me, So much that I would love to have a Kephart made from OH just like that ...

So the long and short of it is that I am going to be making/modifying a knife for Dave Canterbury. I can not tell you guys how excited I am about this.

Here is my original thread about the project, where I posted the YouTube videos. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1086248-Kephart-Knife-DIY-Old-Hickory-Project?p=12388729

Here are a few photos from my original Old Hickory Modification

Man there's just nothing NOT to like about that. Fantastic. I am going to get me some OH knives here soon.

Very nice mods! Have seen the OH's modded into Nessmuks many times before, but never into a Kephart. Very, very nice job.

And...just to get it out of the way...shame about the events leading to Canterbury's departure from the tv show.

Thanks for the positive comments. I am just finishing up the final work on the knives now. I did three and figured I would let him pick his favorite.

I totally don't get the milling on the blade, but it looks really cool!

You did an excellent job of reviving a blade. You know, you should say how you did it, though. I hear that some people are interested in those details:D

I would be happy to explain any part of the knife modification. Was there anything in particular you were interested in?

Dave Canterbury is a wilderness survival instructor who co-stared on a Discovery Channel series called Dual Survivor for two seasons. He also does a lot of YouTube videos about wilderness survival and bushcraft.

I have the same knife and carried it for years. I made a duct tape sheath and duct taped the handle but still an awesome knife. I found it in an old burned out house.

Very nice looking mod ! Can't say I know who this Canterbury guy is though.

Kudos to the OP, and I agree that's an awesome knife and project. As for who Canterbury is, he's many things. One of the things he is is a guy who lied about his military service record, claiming to be a sniper, ranger school, etc. In reality, he was an ID clerk. That's why he was asked to leave Dual Survivor. I have no respect for him.

Dave Canterbury aside, that is an outstanding job you did on the Kephart conversion. Hat's off to you.

Didn't he do an open apology video? In any case his history is not really relevant to the thread imo.

I'm happy for you op. :) Very cool to be recognized by someone you respect!

Funny that this came back up. I was at my brother in laws house a couple of days ago and noticed an OH knife in a cabinet that he had displayed as a part of the decor (he's a goat roper) and thought of your mod. ;)

I personally wouldn't do a damn thing for Low Life - Bottom Feeder Dave!!!
But then again, I served for 12yrs. To us vets (espically us combat vets) it really hits a nerve when someone lies about their military service!!!

Nice knife though.

It's a solid mod and a solid platform. It's good to get the kudo's regardless of who. I don't think you really need to hear my opinions of some individual. I'm just excited to see where this goes for ya.

Thanks for the positive comments about the knife guys. I did not realize people had such strong negative feelings toward Dave. I understand why some people are upset. I am not a military veteran and thank those who are for their service. I have made mistakes in my life and think most people deserve a second chance. Just my thoughts not trying to stir the pot.

Great job, and well executed. After watching your vids, I keep eyeballing the old Dexter 6" cleaver hanging in the corner.
