Hey guys and girls I have been tring to decide on a nice spyderco under $100. I rey like the para2 but I think I'm going to take my spyderco addiction in steps going up in price. So I am pretty sure I will get the manix. I now have to decide lightweight or regular. I can't find many helpful reviews comparing the 2. So that's why I am asking the people on bf! I want to know how the blade steel compares. Not worried about strength. I run a lot so I thought the extra weight would be an issue for the manix. I also prefer g10. U know a sprint would be perfect, lighter and g10 but I don't think I can find one cheap enoug (do not want the pink). I also like ffg blades better. Can't wait to see the good comments. What about the rust resistence in the 2 steels? I go fishing withy edc all the time.

You should be able to find a Para 2 for less than a hundred on the exchange.

If you're going to run with it I'd say go with the lightweight.

Weight in grams

M2 154cm 147 solid liners
M2 DLC 128 skeletonized liners
M2 sprint blue FFG 120 skeletonized liners
M2 lightweight FFG 82
M2 XL FFG 168 solid liners
Manix C95 176 skeletonized liners

I know I can find a para2 for $100 but Id prefer to take it on steps. Right now I have a tenacious inu opinion it's a pretty big jump from that to the paramilitary 2.

That is because at least some of them have skeletonized liners.

I've the lighweight because I'm not a big fan of spydie saber grind.
The ffg CTS bd1 work well for me, the translucent blue handle are gorgeous, and the overall for less than 3 oz !!! And the pocket clip is so much better on this model.
My second choice would be the XL version.

But it's still extremely heavy

It's the same weight as the non-skeletonized M2 and about half an ounce more than the skeletonized version so really not too different, but I only brought it up to show drilling the liners does impact the weight a good deal :)

Are you sure the xl version according to spyderco is 5.9 ounces and normal non drilled is 5 ounces

If you're going in steps, you should grab a Delica or an Endura. Both can be had for ~50$. Both are lightweight and available in ffg.

I have both knives and the XL, I got the regular Manix first, then the lightweight. I really liked the regular Manix when I first got it, it felt strong (I think partly because it's heavy). I carried this one regularly.
Then, when I got the lightweight Manix, it looked so cool that I didn't use it for a while. Eventually the temptation beat me and I'm glad it did. I like the wire clip, the FFG, the weight, and of course, the color.
I think for now (because you know you will eventually get the other one) you should get the lightweight Manix 2.

Good choice. I started with a Manix 2 154cm and while I loved the shape and size it was just a bit heavier than what I liked to have on me most days. Fast forward 2 years and I picked up the lightweight version and haven't looked back. The blade deploys better for me, it rides easier in my pocket and the wire clip is just the icing on the cake. A new Para 2 has replaced it as my go to EDC for the moment but after the new wears off I imagine it will be rotating back in along with my Endura and other Spyders.

Got the manix 2 lightweight today. Absolutely love this thing. I just can't figure out where to put my fingers while flicking the blade closed without it hurting. I'm not getting cut
