Manix 2: S110v or Cru-Wear?

Am looking for my next spydie as part of my edc rotation... Got a PM2 s30v, no complaints whatsoever, love it.

Am looking for a tougher one... And I've narrowed down to the Manix 2. Which one will you recommend? Gotta make a good balance between edge retention and maintenance (resharpen, corrosion resistance).

Trick question

Neither of these steels are balanced

Cruwear is a non stainless tool steel
That is very tough, with a decent amount of edge holding and relative ease of Sharpening.

S110v is the most stainless wear resistant production knife steel available.

Toughness and ease of sharpening

Are low.

If you are looking for balance, I find s30v to be a great steel. If you are convinced you want one of the two mentioned I would personally go with the cruwear for the increased toughness and ease of sharpening. If you need high corrosion resistance, s110v is hard to beat though.

Based on your helpful replies, I'm leaning towards Cru-wear... and yes for my edc use, s30v strikes a good balance of edge retention and ease of sharpening. And I have some H1 blades for corrosion resistance.

Just to make it harder, the new Royal Blue G10 Manix with S110V should be out soon.

I would get the Cruwear because they are hard to find. As a matter of fact, PM me if you know a retailer that has them. If you get the Cruwear and don't love it it should be easy to "re-home". I will say the gray G10 can get mighty dirty if those kinds of things bother you

Dirty handles are the fun part. I love me some CRUWEAR! The steel is pretty easy to take care of too.

The grey G10 DM (dirt magnet ;)) scales need not be a show stopper.

While I cannot say for sure I do not think that the G10 S110V will be skeletonized. The Cruwear as well as all the other sprints are. That is enough for me. I have the Cruwear Military (well, maybe three of them) and a Cruwear Manix2. I love the steel. If you like the edge retention of S30V then you will also like Cruwear. They aren't that different. I also always lean towards sprints just because I enjoy carrying them. I have also used S110V extensively and enjoy it but if I was choosing between the ManixLW S110V, ManixG10 S110V or Manix2 Cruwear I would take the Cruwear.

The edge retention used to be a bigger deal to me before I found a sharpening system I could get consistent results with. But it's still nice, and the abrasion resistance of S110V is nice. I carried the Native in S30V for quite some time, so I'm still forming my opinions on the S110V version. So far I like the edge retention, and it doesn't seem to scuff as easily.

But I can't get the the S110V Native as sharp on the Sharpmaker as I could the S30V version hand sharpened on the underside of a coffee cup. I heard someone call that the "novelty edge" and as my brother would say, it's a thing. So now that the honeymoon has worn off with the new Native, I'm trying to asses which one I honestly like better. Either way there's no doubt to me that S30V is a fantastic steel.

Someone here said they shattered a Manix 2 S110V batoning wood when it hit a knot I think. I probably wouldn't hit any steel that hard with a hammer ;)

Having owned both, I sold my CRUWEAR Manix 2.
For me, CRUWEAR is cool, but it's a novelty steel. I have a Military in CRUWEAR, so one is enough for me.

I love my S110V Manix 2 LW, it pretty much never leaves my pocket in the summer time. And that's including when I'm just lounging around the house in basketball shorts, or swim trunks.
You can't even notice it's there. It's ridiculously light.

I sent mine off to Big Chris for a regrind (.008 bte) and it's the best slicer I've ever used. Eats cardboard for breakfast and so far, I've been able to strop it (bovine with CBN slurry) back to razor sharp after every use. I will need to eventually pick up some diamond plates (Atmoa, maybe?) for real resharpening, but haven't had to so far.

I seriously love this knife and would recommend it to anyone over just about any other offering from Spyderco (with exceptions of course)
