I was watching one of Cutlerylover's videos reviewing the Gerber obsidian

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmmm2tBhJOM.

In his video around (5:43)-(6:25) he says that manual push button lock knives can be converted to a push button automatic. In Canada the knife laws make it difficult for people like me to get balisongs and automatic knives. I have managed to get my hands on 3 Balisongs but I have always wanted an automatic. I tried looking in China town and flee markets with no success. Is there any way I can Modify a manual Push button lock knife to convert it into an automatic?

If you're handy and have a bunch of tools, it'll be hard. If you don't have the tools and are not handy, impossible. Here in the United States, building prohibited items carries roughly the same punishment as buying them illegally.

What's stopping you from driving down to the mothership and driving home with one in your trunk?

In the end, don't do bad things, and you won't have to worry about it.

I try to go to flee markets. but they keep running away.;)

Honestly when it comes to converting a manual to an auto there is a big difference between "can" and "should". I would seriously fear that sucker firing in my pocket.

NorthernSouthpsaw, -love the name btw- so true. Let's not relive frankenshtein. Honestly, having had and used many autos, pocket openers are faster. Period. Get something that looks ravishing in a " wave" or mod it to be so. Otherwise buy one that's made to be auto.

I have a Delica, Matriarch 2 and Endura all with the Emerson Wave feature. I want a push button automatic to own and play with in my house, not to use and carry. I guess if I really want some automatics I will drive down to Pennsylvania and bring some back with me. Does anyone know any other states that are closer to Ontario, Canada where Automatic knives are legal to own?

978 myself. Never had a problem, even with 5" blades. If its auto, or double edged, or a Bali, its trouble to carry. That's really all the state law says. Jurisdictionally, that's where the rub is. I may be wrong, but basically Boston is the only one with its own ordinance.

I'm 978 also. I'va carried an auto before, this model:

But it's double action, so almost no one would ever know it was auto. Plus, I don't cause trouble, so I'm never in a position of being frisked.

Converting button lock to automatic in many cases means just adding a coil spring.

There are also complete knife kits availible online, from which you can either build auto or manual knife.

I would also bet that factory button locks, like boker kalashnikov also have coil spring channel already milled.

Bladeforums rules do not allow for discussions of illegal activities. If automatics are illegal in Canada, we do not support circumventing those laws.
