OK I don't know much about fixed blades because I haven't needed one I suppose. But I deeply feel I should own one of these. I think I have the jist of these two knives but would like to pose these questions. What can the marauder do better than the survivalist? Any and all input is appreciated!

Have you considered one of these?

Oddly enough the handle is one of my favorite features of this knife, For a knife this size and weight it is actually very well balanced. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee. 🐝
I have the older smaller gold colored version. it does feel good in the hand until I use it for normal cutting tasks...just feels awkward.....guess cause I'm used to a straighter handle is all.........

What do you want it for? Camping, chopping brush, swashbuckling? The DF Survivalist is a great knife for general camp chores. Not ideal for slicing cheese, but it'll do the job. The newer model of Survivalist has a great handle on it, with the scales. Its also lighter than the old model. The Marauder looks like more of a light chopper, but I don't have one.

The first thing you notice when you pick up a Marauder is how light and lively it feels. My impression was that it might well be the best slashing weapon of thus s8ze I have ever held. This is comparing it as well to others like this I own, including a Bark River Marauder and Lon Humphries something or other (Hickok? Gunfighter?).

Anyway, the Cold Steel Marauder is not a survival or Bush knife, it is a weapon. If you are looking for a weapon that's the right one for you. If you want a survival knife get the other.

The marauder strikes me as more a knife for killing things with deep piercing stabs.

The survivalist lives up to its name.

The survivalist is the better “all-around” fixed blade in my opinion. The marauder looks flashy and cool, but isn’t as versatile IMHO.

Added bonus is the survivalist is drop-forged.. so pretty much bomb-proof apocalyptic type survival knife.

Drop Forged , Survivalist for named purpose and general utility .

But ..oh boy , I really like the handling and feel of the longer DF Bowie .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Just needs to have the swedge sharpened :

IMO , the perfect utility / fighter at a bargain price !

Tip breakage occurs at 6:20 min mark. This video is 3 yrs old and the fellow that made it mentions that CS replaced it (in comments section). I felt most of the testing was fair and not insanely over the top (it is called the “Survivalist”). Then again I would never pry with a knife…dumb in my opinion. But just thought you should see it. I have the Drop Forged Hunter, it’s so nice looking I will probably just keep it as a collection piece.

If any part of swashbuckling involves carrying it upside down on my back, then I intend to swashbuckle it.🤠

thats what im thinkn

I think the tip is the weak spot on this knife. It seems to be more of a fighter to me especially the one CM ground and wrapped the handle and sharpened the top swedge on and called his Hoodrat knife. The survivalist has a straight-line handle more in line with a fighter. The knife I would use for prying and the outdoors would be more apt to be a Recon Scout with the thicker blade and tip.

I have thrown my DF Survivalist into tree stumps many times (dumb I know) and it hasn't broken. I have done little boring tasks with the tip and it does a good job on those. Batoned it hard. Just don't pry deep stuff with it. The tip is thin, but much stronger than I anticipated. Really good overall. The 52100 is very, very tough.

Im surprised it broke i cut down a small tree with mine, among other things.now that is the 1st version, without the handle inserts and silver finish. Not sure if the newer version is any stronger or better heat treated.
