I have watched a couple of youtube videos that think the Marbles camp axe is a great bargain at $25. I'm wondering if some of you have experience with them. I'm thinking they would make nice Christmas gifts for my two young boys.

I am unsure of the exact models, but Marbles hatchets are a fantastic bargain, any boy ought to just love one of them.

I own the little one that tanglediver posted, well I've promised it to my oldest as his first hatchet. I would say the quality is good. The fit and finish on mine was nice. It came sharp with a nice bit profile once removing the protective lacquer from the edge/bit. The steel and HT seems spot on. The downsides being it feels a little strange in use with such a long bit, and the handle while nicely done is actually too thin and I find the lanyard hole uncomfortable. The larger one is likly less of an issue, definitely worth the money IMO.

The old ones seem to be fine, however the newer ones are made overseas and do not have very high reviews overall, if I remember right.

Operator, these specifically are made by Condor, in El Salvador. These are relatively new to their lineup, within the last couple of years I believe.

When Marbles first rose from the dead the axes/hatchets they were making were Chinese and generally considered garbage. The current ones are made in El Salvador by Condor/Imacasa and are of very good quality for the money. I do agree that the hatchet seems to have a very long bit. I'd want a more closed hang on such a head.

I almost hate to say it but in that price range I would be looking at fiskars over marbles.

I purchased the marbles camp axe about a year ago. For the price I was blown away. Did not come with a sheath so I also bought a cheap estwing leather sheath that has worked out nicely.

Must be a hot seller. I found them a few weeks ago on SMKW website for $25, now they are sold out for Christmas. She said it was a hot seller and they had a large order for them but not in yet.

I may have just done a dumb thing. I am sure it's more of a display piece...but did I get ripped off buying one of these?

Little worried about the marking on the blade. Hoping it's not damage but some sort of gunk on it that can be cleaned off.

I am of the opinion that the Marbles Camp axe made by Condor in ElSalvadore has got to be the best value for a half axe...hand forged 1045 steel, American Hickory handle, excellent fit and finish, all for $21.00. Speaking of excellent prices for excellent axes, my niece reports from Spain that all these "boutique" axes that Americans luster over...not use, but luster over, like Wetterlingshud, Gransfors, etc, are almost half the cost when purchased in Spain.

I live in Spain. In Barcelona, Catalonia, and for the heck of them I can not find any of these brands at my local stores or near my city.
I have to order them online and I can assure you (to my disgrace :( unfortunately) they are nowhere near half the price.
Please tell me where did she find them at those prices in my country, and I will confirm that myself by buying a couple of them.
Thanks!

The thing is, they are not actually Marbles products.

So a corporation bought another old name to capitalize on and to stick on consumer goods made in third-world countries by wage-slaves.

I don't buy tools from multi-national companies and corporations no matter what name they have bought to exploit. There are still tools you can buy from real companies that are a lot more honest than this, not to mention being able to buy mint vintage axes and hatchets for a few dollars each at second-hand venues.

Tol be more clear, any online Internet purveyor in Europe have these for sale at prices that are nearly half of what these Swedish axes sell for here in the US.

Well, with the Condor/Imacasa-sourced items at least they're not paid slave wages. They get fair wages in a safe work environment. There's just a significant exchange rate difference. I can't speak for the Chinese stuff though.

I don't want to comment on the cost of the article but I do think you got hosed with regard to shipping cost. I suspect some shysters out there make more money off difference in actual shipping cost vs posted cost.

Yeah that's the one I ordered...and the shipping was free. I actually got 2. Gonna gift one for someone at Christmas. I paid roughly 35 each...which I felt while they are Chinese...they are just nice wall hangers. Not sure what the link is saying now...but I paid nothing for the shipping cost 300six.
