This is my first time on the Spyderco Forum so first of all I would just like to say "hi." I was reading the newest issue of Blade and read about some new Spyderco knives that would be designed for martial art use. This has sparked my interest, especially since it can withstand 200 pounds per inch of blade force. Does anyone have any info about these knives? Thanks. -Lev

Go to the top of the page and find "search" then check out the name Gunting. I think this is the knife you're asking about. There were quite a few posts including some pictures not long ago.

Levs18,
Welcome to the forum! As Esav said, it's the Gunting and if you do a search you'll find lots of interesting stuff on it. The designer of the knife, Bram is here pretty regular so I'm sure that if you have any questions, he'd be more than happy to answer them for ya.
Oh I think that it's due to be released very soon. I'm waiting with anticipation for it!

And also search for "Chinook".

The Gunting, Chinook, and Temperance are the first three knives in the Martial Blade Craft line. It's my understanding that all MBC knives have to have extremely strong locks. Sal or Bram could tell you a lot more about them.

You guys did great.. I'm not needed here..LOL
The MBC line up should be in bloom..jims CHINOOK should be out in peoples hands by now..The GUNTING is supposed to be birthed Sept 1....Ok so I'm going crazy waiting..
The MBC line up must be able to withstand the force of two big guys banging into each other and pulling against the lock with KINETIC force..no static stuff here..
All can be used closed in some form..Of course thats the GUNTINGS strong point..closed usage..They all work in reverse grip to lock and trap..
They're all Three inch blades and they all have locks which exceed 800 inch pounds of force...
The clips are designed uniquely to each knife, allowing for grip reversals and all three are designed by martial artists/ blade people...Sal credits. Keating, Locke, Frank & Taylor for his input..Jim and I are our own input..LOL!

Theres lots of theads about these new toys,..
Beach Blade is coming up..The first MBC-GUNTING certification seminar

Bram,

I know that people who pre-order the Gunting should get it around Sept 1st but when will it acutally show up in mainstream knife shops? I already know I want a Gunting but I have a thing about actually touching a knife before I buy it.

hhmmm I'm not sure But I would expect sometime right after that...
UNLESS you want to come play with us and actually fondle the GUNTING..yes we'll let you touch our prize child..LOL!
Most Ok all the people that touch it ..well I have to pry it out of their hands...
SPYDERCO is being the coolest and is really working their collective butts off to get the GUNTING out on time and to my first events in September..
all i can really say is hang tight and you'll have a GUNTIG to play with soon..

Simply AWESOME Bram!

have spydies
will travel...

Thanx guys.

The Gunting & Temperance Jr are 3" blades. The Chinook is 3.5".

All have a Spyderco MBC lock strength rating (a minimum of 200 inch/lbs per inch of blade). the Gunting and the Tempeance Jr. use Compression Locks. The Chinook uses a lockback (strongest lockback ever made).

The first Guntings shipped will go to Bram, then out to dealers.

Chinooks are already on the shelf and should be shipping within a week.

Temperance Jr. is scheduled for early next year. Sooner if possible.

BTW, Endura "trainers" just arrived.

Hi Bram. The articles were very impressive. You ARE working! I heard you were just hangin' out at the beach.

The trainers are also very nice. A perfect "intro" to the Gunting.

"Hi" to Mary & the "Brat".
