Ive really gotten to like the Spyderco Massad Ayoob
Unfortunately, the only one I could find was a well worn SE ($55 shipped from a forum member, not bad, and thanks rycen). Ive had my eye out for another for quite some time, but nothing except for this lucky hit.
The thin profile and overall large size relative to ease of carry make this one of my favorite folders. Does anyone know if Mr. Ayoob has collaborated with other knife makers? All my attemps to research Mr. Ayoob only yeild endless articles on lethal force and firearms, the Spyderco Massad Ayoob is the only knife reference Ive found.

Is Masaad Ayoob the actual name of a person???? Reason I ask is that every time I see that name Masaad I think of the Israeli equivlent of our CIA. I was just wondering....

flbache, it is. He's a US police officer who does firearms instruction and writes for several gun publications.

Loki88,
You are the man. Ive got one on order from Excalibur in the US as of 2 minutes ago thanks to you.
I owe you one. Thanks again, Rui

Roodog,

This was a really under-rated folder that to me is top shelf in design and execution.
I'm still amazed this piece did not catch on.

The canted blade let's you cut without bending your wrist. I've found that stabs come accurately and quite naturally with this folder and slashes are frighteningly effective. As far as slahing cuts, I haven't yet come across a more efficient slashing blade than the Spyderco Massad Ayoob folder. :( That forward canted blade puts a lot of power into that type of cut.

The blade steel, being VG-10, takes a really aggressive edge and holds it very well. None of my VG-10 blades from Spyderco have ever chipped, rolled or gone prematurely dull. Spyderco has the heat treat on VG-10 down cold IMO. ;)

My one problem with the knife is the Aluminum handle can get a bit slick. I solved this by adding traction tape to the sides and now it is very secure in the hand.

But, I suppose this is kinda like preaching to the choir since apparently you already have been bitten by the Ayoob bug. ;)

I'd like to see a re-introduction of this folder possibly with a Ball Lock or Compression Lock and some nice blue G-10 scales. :D
It deserves a second chance...

Best of luck with your new Ayoob!
