Just got an email from Drop, kind of sad to see this shift, as some of the Laconico and Terzoula knives I got from them are actually very nice. Sadly, most of the production stuff they offered was neither timely in delivery or competitively priced.

Hi everyone,

You may have noticed some changes to our site over the last few months that emphasize the Audiophile and Mechanical Keyboard Communities. We have seen tremendous growth in these Communities, and after much deliberation we have made the decision to focus our resources on these two Communities exclusively.

Over the last four years we have built a strong following and portfolio of products in the Everyday Carry and Outdoors Communities. To narrow our focus, we are transitioning our Drop Studio EDC and Outdoors products to Amazon.

We will be sunsetting the Everyday Carry and Outdoors Communities on Drop.com on March 23rd. Product pages will still be accessible by direct links or searching, and will retain their reviews and discussion sections. We are pleased to announce these products will continue to be available for purchase exclusively on Amazon. Moreover, new products will launch directly on Amazon, delivering new community-inspired products on the world's largest retail platform. Updates on these products will be shared via email to our existing Everyday Carry and Outdoor members.

This shift in focus will result in more consistent in-stock availability of these products, and will provide access to Amazon’s Prime 2-day shipping, as well as Amazon’s convenient return policy.

The Drop Store is currently live on Amazon with many of our products, with more being added every week. Please check our current stock of EDC and Outdoor gear below, and be sure to check back regularly for updates and additions.

We will also be sunsetting Watches on Drop.com, effective March 23rd. Any Watches-related product runs you’ve joined won’t be affected, and you’ll still see a few runs in our More Community Picks section.

From community polls and comment threads to the retail stage of the world, we couldn't have made these products without your contributions. While this is a big shift, we're excited to continue offering the Drop experience to new and existing customers through our partnership with Amazon.

Thank you,

Drop

it's hardly sad... they became just another marketing firm a few years ago... it just took us all a long time to actually realize it

they've not had truly good pricing on knives for a long time now, and their horrible shipping execution history has made most of their customer base ignore them

my last massdrop purchase was around 2017
I honestly only kept my massdrop membership so I could link to knifecenter or bladehq listings for the same price and next day shipping instead of 'some time in the 2nd quarter of the year'

I was really into MassDrop when they first came on the scene, but haven’t bought anything for a couple of years. They served a nice role matching designers with manufacturers, but that now happens everyday without a middleman.

MassDrop really struggled with communication; I think that was their ultimate undoing for Knife Knuts.

I can’t say I’ll miss MassDrop, but I’m glad that I was able to get in on some of their early knives that helped grow the industry.

One of their biggest fails was delivery. The most ridiculous, round the world, circuitous routes you could imagine. I got a couple gems from them in the early days. It got overdone, the deals weren't deals, communication and shipping slipped. It was a cool idea but not managed properly and got a bad rap pretty early on.

That mechanical keyboard community is so hot right now

I've owned one for years before they ever started selling them ; p

mx brown is my preference, the crazy clacky clacky of the other ones very quickly fades as a novelty and switches to incredibly annoying

I tried to start, but never did due to their cost, and difficulty in successively placing an order.

Their whole voting thing was a joke. However, I did get some good deals early on, and they were audio equipment.

I have been vocal about my dislike of massdrop being involved in the knife community and their business model.

All I can say is don't let the door hit md on the way out.

I was very excited when they announced their first Terzuola collaboration, but their execution of that drop, lack of communication, and attitude towards their customers when they brought up legitimate complaints really soured me on them. Their customer service rep for knives was such a pompous, condescending jerk on their site, Instagram, and other platforms, that I'm surprised he was ever hired to work in a customer service role. There's a reason their other product categories have grown, while knives haven't, and it probably has 100% to do with customer service. They had great ideas and brought some great knives to market, but I refused to support them directly after my first experience with them. (I did get a great deal on a Mordax, which I got on the secondary market, specifically to avoid giving them money.)

Hopefully switching to distribution through Amazon will improve their shipping times and customer service, but based on this statement, I doubt they'll be bringing new products and collaborations to market like they had been, which was the only reason to ever pay attention to them.

They were pretty cool when they would buy odds and ends clear outs and the flip them. When they got to big and started trying to make and push their own stuff the spread too thin.

Interesting.

Only bought a one thing on Massdrop.

A diamond sharpening stone which is/was very good. Never bought a knife there and that's probably why they are giving up on them and going where the $ is; couldn't sell enough of them.

I use to sell audio gear and it's pretty cut throat. Same can be said about electronics generally -- remember Circuit City?

Well, I wish them luck but I won't be buying anything else from them again.
