Guys,

I just ordered a black Maxpedition Fatboy for my edc stuff. Anyone use this model before? I'm just hoping its not too "tacticool nor man-purse" like. I generally hate having a lot of crap in my pockets weighing me down and the Max sling-pack system looks to have a place for every piece of gear I like carrying with me. Plus it looks more down to business.

It's well made with sturdy materials and good finish. I haven't used it in long time though, as it is pretty much gear oriented pack rather than pack meant for hauling lots of stuff over the day (I prefer messenger packs). It's good companion pack for woodsbumming though, or for short daywalks.

I have one, like it.
It's an Indy bag for the wilds, though, I don't wear it around town. :)

I have the Jumbo S and really like the pack. However 'low profile' it isn't. Definitely has the survival/tactical look to it. Not sure I'd be carrying mine around in a shopping center.

I've brought it in to the office, but we're a bunch of tech nerds so it blends in enough there.

Very handy for carrying a radio and other clutter along while hiking though. Likely handy just for general use, but it has a look that will attract 'special' attention, so I wouldn't carry anything in it that you shouldn't be.

A couple local cop friends saw it, knew the bag and knew right away it has a concealment pocket in it. They know me though...but if they saw someone they didn't know with the bag, it would be on their minds.

Where mine travels, the .44 on the hip would probably draw more attention than the bag over the shoulder. :)

The fatboy versipack makes for a good tactical diaper bag...much better than the floral pink one we got at the baby shower:)

It's a great pack. I have one and like it a lot. You can't beat Maxpeditions quality & innovations. I bet you will enjoy it. I don't worry too much about what people think. I don't mind if they are looking at the bag cause if they have evil in mind, it probably isn't where they're real obstacle is anyway, (they just don't know it), and if not, well let em wonder!

started with fatboy; wasn't long before i determined it was too small...sold it, then a jumbo because i wanted to carry my asus netbook, which it did well but with no more room...kept it, and got a lunada; but it was terrible when using only one shoulder and still too small...

so i sold that and got the malaga, which had lots of room BUT was still terrible on one shoulder...used it till i found a discontinued devil dog, which works well across or on one shoulder...and when i hacked off the ill designed and useless waist strap, it is perfect as my edc bag...

and for certain purposes, i have at my disposal the monsoon, pygmy falcon, proteus, neat freak and thermite...i do use them all...

+1 for that, but I use a discontinued typhoon for my tactical diaper bag. The Jumbo is now my DSLR bag, and its the best bag I have ever used for photo shoots. But, now with another little one on the way I am thinking about upgrading to the Sitka.

I just got the JUMBO and i like it alot, i kinda overloaded it at first but were undercontrol now. I have worn it in the woods and around town, but the yuppies lokk at me a lil strange.... Pizzonem, they only laugh but if they only had a clue......:D:thumbup:

Thanks guys for your replies! Is everyone pretty much of the same opinion that with any kind of "tactical" looking backpack/slingpack your signature is likely to go up amongst the sheeple population? And do you care?

I live in the DC/NoVA area so I'm not too worried about looking like a freak with my cool new "black ops" gear, lol. I just got tired of leather messenger bags and attache cases and the like, I just wanted something tough that has a space for every EDC item I carry and of course just a "few" knives :o)

I don't think mine looks too crazy to sheeple, but the nosier ones or LEO/security may notice it. I really don't care what sheeple say or think, they aren't the ones who haul people away for no reason these days. You have to watch out for the rest more than anything.

A plain backpack or courier bag is a lot lower profile. Saddleback Leather makes some really nice, much lower profile bags as just one example.

I like the Max bag for all the mounting points etc for the type of gear I lug around when I use it.

I just ordered one and I am looking forward to getting it. I got the Khaki/Foliage. I hope it will be large enough. There may be times when I want to tote my Glock 27 in it.

Here is a picture of my Fatboy, its a damn good bag for day hikes and EDC.
I use it as my river bag for fishing, best fishing bag I have ever used...
I have a few Maxpedition products and they are built excellent
My personal favorite is the Falcon II

I have the Colossus... liked the design much better than the Fatboy. No complaints... well thought out and well made.
