:thumbdn: this thread is not about a knife, but about wilderness equipment...
well , i have some maxpedition gear, the pygmy falcon 2, the rat wallet, M2 pouch, rolly polly pouch, octa versipack, and i have only good things to say about them.
what i didnt like that much in the maxpedition line of products, was the liger gun belt.
it is strong, it is light, maybe its good to carry guns on it, i wouldnt know, i have none of those, i only carried some pouches on it, and it holds them well.
i dont have a problem with its locking mechanism, that hook..but with its extreme stiffnes.
i mean it feels like i wear a steel ring on my waist, and the pants are hanging from it.
i find it very uncomfortable with that kind of stiffness, and the IWB knife carry really gets affected by that, especialy on longer knives.
i know its not made for casual wearing....it does say Gun belt ,anyway, that is my feeling about it
i find that my old leather belt its superior, at least in comfort, and it can also hold some pouches good enough.
anybody else here has one ?

No, I don't have one, but I can help you understand why it is so stiff.

It's a gunbelt. That means that it is designed to keep a full-sized pistol balanced and in place whether walking, running, or rolling around on the ground. Without that stiffness, the gun would flop around, and perhaps not be accessible immediately when needed.

That's the theory, anyway, behind stiff gunbelts. They aren't for everybody.

If you want a good belt thats not as stiff, check out the blackhawk riggers belt. I wear one almost every day. It is super comfortable and secure fitting.

thanks, but the blackhawk riggers belt seems to 'tactical' for me...
i bought the liger blackout belt because it doesn't have the tactical look, and i liked the design overall

Wilderness instructors belt is good too. Most synthetic belts look tactical. If thats an issue, Go with leather, just watch out for the leather belts that have the inserts in them too, those are real stiff as well.

I wear an inch and a half leather belt that I use for my pants, with a couple of pouches it works great. Works OK with a smallish .380 tucked in the waist band too.

Woohoo! Somebody else carries "Mexican"! I thought I was th only one.

Gunbelts are designed to be stiff so they do not roll or deform while carrying a holstered pistol. The Liger Gunbelt is a great product. I have had one for some time, and it is comfortable, and has not deformed at all even while carrying a 40oz+ pistol every day.

I do not notice any comfort difference between the Liger and the old leather belt I used to wear. Functionally, the Liger blows leather out of the water.

Funny that you should ask. I felt the same way about the LGB originally. Then after the trials and 1 year of rotational use. I rekon it's the top performer in it's class bar none. You learn to appreciate the non-deforming characteristics of Ligerthane once you start to actually hold something up with this belt. Not to mention I wear if for much of my casual and workday protocols.
I will tell you that for non-survival use (ie, you're not going to expect an emergency extrication using it) I found that trimming the buckle hook by 1/8" and opening the holes up into OVALS , it was much easier to don and doff. You'll understand what I mean if you try to take this belt off in a hurry in the 'John'.
Another point is I'm willing to bet this is a lifetime belt. My original one looks almost the same today as it did new 18 months ago.

nice review Moodino, i am keeping my liger belt for ocasions when i need to attach stuff to it, but as far as daily normal wear is concerned, i will stick to my not that stiff leather belt, the difference would be that the liger belt, i feel it when i wear it, but the leather one, it does its job, and i dont even know its there.
that is to bad for me because i really like the simple design look of the belt.

I think it's the hands-down best gun belt out there. But for holding up your pants, there are better choices.... ;)

I love the thin, narrow nylon belts with cam buckles, but they're too flimsy for carrying a knife or whatever. A real gun belt is uncomfortably stiff for much other than carrying a gun.

The middle ground is a good bridle leather belt. I believe Filson makes a nice one. I have one made by a harness maker in Kentucky.

Stay sharp,

i like my cheap 5.11 tactical bdu belt.

costs about 15 bux and is very durable.

i looked at the liger belts but they werent really to my liking.

cheers
