I was thinking about one of these or the Sitka, there is a store in town that carries both of them, I really like my EDC versipack.

The monsoon is a great pack, not to big not to small.I've had mine for about a year and a half with no problems. Two of my friends have sitkas, they both mentioned how uncomfortable it is when overloaded. One friend has since sold his.

i have one...i'll say for me it's just ok...i use it primarily as a overnite carry/gym bag...if i was carrying lots of books it would not work well for me; the shape limits its capacity...

if you're an overloader, it may not be the best choice...also they don't carry well at all if you're gonna sling it on one shoulder; you pretty much have to always put it on cross shoulder, and that's any of the gearslinger models...

I use mine as an EDC bag. It works really good. I did a couple mods on it to get it more to my liking though. The only dislike I have with it now is I wish the shoulder strap was thicker. It can make your shoulder a little sore after carrying it a couple hours straight. It's an all around good bag though.

I've found the MOLLE on the fold down vestibule to not be all that useful after attaching one of Maxpeds large medical kit organisers to it - fully loaded 5" tacties and the balance of the pack goes way out. It takes loads on the side webbing and pocket slip well though, as you can probably tell with the canteen carrier on the opposing edge being engineered for solid/fluid weight. The MP3 cable management hole is pretty much useless for me as I use bluetooth headphones but id advise having plenty of wire length if you intend to make use of that feature as there is plenty of things for the cables to snag upon.

Compression straps work fairly well for ease of access waterproof outerwear storage too or for tucking an umbrella or trekking poles through.

Here they are extended to factory maximum, you can easily make them larger by adding an intermediate length of webbing with corresponding male/female soft clips

The bladder pouch in the rear is huge but without a frame it can easily deform the ride of the bag and make the single strap awkward at times. Routing for the straws is also nothing to write home about having to pass through an opening of a zip, if you use an insulator it will probably end up wearing or catching on the teeth.

Garbage....its not comfortable at all. They say its the biggest of the Gearslinger packs but you cant get much in there. I gave mine to my 10 year old step-son and he used it for school for alittle while, then one day he came home and said he didn't want it anymore because it was a piece of crap. He likes his $15 pack from Walmart better.

hey if your not using it you can ship it my way :D..ill pay for the shipping ...

yea, i was up in the air with the monsoon and the sitka..ended up buying the sitka and been pretty happy..sitka is a bit small but it does what i need it to do..

I have never found a sling-type bag that isnt uncomfortable when loaded down quite a bit. My Monsoon,Kodiak were both great bags until you packed som much crap in them they were almost unbearable.
The pros to a sling type bag are:easy to wear and take off, easy to sling around to the front if you need to retrieve anything from inside the bag.
Cons:Very uncomfortable to wear if you have heavy items inside, may seem unstable if running(some have a waist strap that try to eliminate this), most of the "sling-type" bags are rather small(not a problem if you dont want one).
To my knowledge Maxpedition does not really give you an option for which side shoulder to carry it on, and to me I would like to see options.

I like an actual backpack because when I carry it I feel like its stable enough not to move from side to side and up and down while running, etc.
Most of the time when I have it loaded down it is still very comfortable for me.

well we see what your step-son thinks......always important to use a 10 y/o opinion when buying a QUALITY backpack...I have always said that.
Just becasue you dont like the model is not a good reason to diss the entire company. Like it or not the quality is outstanding and its premium Maxpedition work, and to say that it is "Garbage" is pissing on Maxpedition as a whole.

Definitely not the best way for a 10 year old to carry his schoolbooks. Not good for carrying a piano, either. Not a good choice for carrying an injured kangaroo. Yup, it's garbage ... I guess. Hardly good for anything....

Well the triangular shape of the Monsoon helps stop gear that you frequently cart about & use sliding down the side to the bottom where the mushrooms grow and Readers Wives magazines dwell; if your into layering your junk like myself. Organising space is ridiculously tight in the section of netting at the front of the bag, you wont be getting away with throwing bags of crisps or origami penguins in it without destroying your paper companion and potentially being arrested for carrying a wimpy I.E.D. when the bag goes pop. The vestibule flapper thing complicates access to the main compartment but its another deterrent for pickpockets and zip tuggers, this is especially important for some that use public transport during high density hours the sling also aids creating peace of mind in the same respect.

6.5/10 for trail use

7/10 for urban jungle use.

Maxpediton makes awsome products, I love them. The monsoon is the only one I've had problem with, everthing else I have from them is top notch. The Monsoon is a well built pack but a poor design....that's what I meant to say.
