Ok, I have been looking for a new wallet that I can carry On-Duty. I have always carried a leather wallet....and lost a few as well. I have been looking at the Maxpedition Spartan. I like the wallet, but not too sure about being a grown man with velcro on my wallet! Just wondering what everyone thought of this wallet and if ya'll had any (non-velcro, possibly) alternatives that would be good as well!

i prefer a front pocket wallet. mine is from coach, but many companies have similar models.

I love my Spartan wallet. The Velcro is a little corny, but if you're looking for a wallet things won't fall out of, it's fantastic. You can open it, turn it upside down and shake it, and all of your bills and cards stay put.

My spartan is very well made and I don't notice the velcro anymore, the only thing I don't like is the way the cards can occlude each other,Overall it is very nice.

I carry the same Coach wallet but in black. IMHO a grown man shouldn't carry a velcro wallet, but to each his own.

The Wallet J.R. from Spec Op's Brand. No velcro using the "shark bite" closure. You can also wear it around your neck for quick I.D in airports and such. Good luck in your choice!

Matador-

Thanks for the responses! I am still looking...still not sure about the velcro, though! That spec ops wallet looks promising...

I just recently bought a Big Skinny Tri Fold after doing some extensive
research on wallets. I was looking at the Spartan. Very nice indeed,
but much too big for my tastes. Big Skinny was the only one that
offered a small package. I don't carry as much gear as most people
though. And this site has ensured that I'll be carrying less bills, hehe :)

The Spec Ops Brand T.H.E. Wallet Jr. is an excellent wallet. It's very, very wear resistance and incredibly handy. I got it on a whim when visiting an outfitter and couldn't be happier. It has since replaced wallets by Coach, Perry Ellis, et cetera. The features designed are incredibly well-thought-out and the quality is outstanding.

Spec Ops makes there products in the United States of America and do customer service right.

It has no Velcro so you don't feel juvenile when using it, and it won't be as badly damaged by liquids or perspiration, making it an ideal "sport" wallet for use in the summer or outdoors.

I had a Spartan and parked it in a drawer until I gave it away. It was not a nice wallet with the stiff and noisy Teflon finished nylon and all the Velcro. I replaced it with a quality leather wallet and never looked back.

This is what I am leaning towards.....Seems nice and it has good reviews......Plus no velcro!:D

That nylon material seems like it would be slick as well....I have always carried a leather wallet if this spec ops wallet doesn't work out I know I can always go back to my tried and true leather wallets!

That's one of my favorite things about the Spartan. I don't have to worry about stuff falling out of it.

The nylon on the Spec Ops isn't slippery in the slightest.

It's 1000D denier Cordura nylon. It feels thick, tough, and of the highest quality and is surprisingly grippy. The pulled out the stops in nylon wallets when they built these.

i got the spartan and had same issues with it being a velcro wallet and being a bit too tall...it's all about tradeoffs; finally have a wallet that can hold a swisscard and all my cards...when i wear a suit, i do have a thin leather that i transfer minimal items to from the spartan...mostly i use the spartan...

My experience with heavy nylon wallets has been poor. I owned an Eagle Industries wallet and a Blackhawk. The material is so rough on them that they sanded my credits cards down to being unreadable in about 6 months. Maxpedition is known for it's stiff ultradurable material. I assume it will be the same. I went with a fossil tri-fold leather after that and it's been just fine for me.

I carry the Spec Ops wallet. I usually leave it in my Max Jumbo, as it is pretty big to carry all the time (I usually carry in my front left pocket, or front left cargo pocket, if I am wearing cargo pants/shorts). I don't carry cash in my wallet, but I do let the amount of receipts go till they are bursting the wallet. My debit card, and insurance card, RAT survival card ;) :D. A bit overkill for my uses, but it has served me well for the past couple years. No wear or tear on it at all.

Two of my coworkers have been using Spartan wallets for a year now, and they haven't had any complaints about them. I have one on the way now. :)
