This may sound goofy but I want to replace a couple of Thumb studs and some scale hardware. For the screws and stuff for the scales I know I can just say T6 for example but would any T6 basically fit any knife that a T6 or does brand make a difference?
I don't know how to measure a Thumb stud. The only reason for replacement is just want a color to brighten up my blades that have the usual everyday black scales.

Thanks in advance.

T6 is the size of the torx driver necessary to turn the screw, not the size of the screw.

You might need to know the actual size of the screws. Some SAE and metric screws both use a T6 driver.

Someone might be able to provide a more detailed answer if you say what the brand and model of knife it is.

^^^ this.

And even worse, when you have counter-sunk screws, you need the angle of the screw head. E.g., for most Spyderco scale and pivot screws its 100 degrees which are very hard to find.

I don’t know much about thumb-studs, only know they are different depending on brand and blade thickness.

What knife, maybe we can help with details ?

Calipers are good to use, but careful use of clear plastic ruler or protractor base would work. Taking a pic with known object in field of view, like clear plastic ruler helps tired old eyes.
further interest-
Imaging software like NIH ImageJ, newer supported freeware/opensource then NIHImage, that lets you:
register known objects for calibration, then measure unknown objects in same field of view accurately. Again to help see pics, you can apply grids, different colors, coordinate x/y values, etc. Think temperature, pressure, audio, oscilloscope traces, bird populations in flyways, particle analysis like petri dish cultures, flight values for balls, catapults, planes, etc.

Thanks very much. One knife is the Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto and the other Knife is Boker Resurrection.

Didn't know about this.
If you have the exact diameter, the correct pitch, and the length you can order fasteners on line. You may also have to specify things like material, finish, head parameters, tool engagement type, etc.

There are Boker and Cold Steel subforums in the Manufacturer's forums. If you ask in those subforums someone who owns those knives might know the screw sizes.
